  • About Me: I'm a casual/recreational gamer. To be a hardcore gamer in description (to me) entails limiting oneself to a genre/genified type that is chosen. I have been playing video games on alot of consoles for about 25 years; and enjoy many types of games. If you're hardcore and feel your need to express distaste in my flavour choice in games... beat it. You have a favourite console, great; you have a favourite genre; good for you as I do as well. Just don't force your opinions on me or anyone else and everything will be just fine; and if you do you're a jerk, plain and simple.

    @Jones: If you end up liking 'Preacher', Garth Ennis does another series called 'Crossed'. It's along the vein of 'The Walking Dead'; although it's more severe and with fewer consequences to the human characters.

    @Jones: Can I ask why you recommend Wii Fit Plus in this article; yet in your other 'parental rules' article, you state that a parent should steer clear of Wii Fit and its sequels.
    PS: You live in Vancouver now apparently; so if you're ever on the island you should give me a holler and we can play some games.

  • So I just watched "that part" of Fox & Friends by Kyle Orland

    In the context of racism/terrorism, does it really matter whether the player is American or otherwise? Couldn't someone in the Middle East construe the other 90% of the game as "that part"? No one really conmplains when the Germans/Austrians/Axis are the brunt of our gun butts, but if something with some recent relevance comes up, everyone makes a big hubbabaloo. Can you imagine the censorship/media extravaganza if Germany was to make a (semi) realistic FPS from the Nazi regime's point of view? Pure bedhlam (and probably censorship in North America akin to Australia's censoring).

    I saw a girl/guy couple with the woman dressed as an electrical outlet and the guy dressed as an electrical cord and plug.
    And that 'moustache' T-shirt is great! Makes me want to go back and play PvZ again.

    My "Dark Void" is the loss of literal hours that I have spent installing games on my PS3 before I can play them. I try to support it, but when I can be playing the same game on my 360 in a tenth of the time, I pick the obvious choice.

    OK; I'm sorry. I got the free DL for this, hitched it up no problem; and ended up playing it through on my Dreamcast. I could not figure out a proper configuration for the keyboard; and could not find one for a PS3 Dualshock Mod either. I still tried to keep with the group; but like 'buddy' said; keep in the air and you're fine. This game was fun; severely intense (not as hard as Abe's Odyssey with a Keyboard); but worth it for the nostalgia. Like I said though; I ended up buying($10) and playing it on my PS3. It worked great. Better than any Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper.
    BTW: is Scott Jones not working (regularly) for you guys anymore?

    @ MSUSteve;
    Thanks for the heads up on the saving system. I fully agree with you about the mouse and keyboard controls. I was never a PC player so I have difficulty figuring out how to use all ten fingers to snipe... b/c that's what it seems to be like with this game using that control scheme. If you have a Dualshock2 controller kicking around, there are plenty of apps that allow you use that to play. It still takes a bit of twiddling to get it feeling right though. I found that using the left thumbstik for movement and turning, using the and buttons for strafing, and cionfiguring the other buttons to however you would like works well, for me anyways. That setup seems to get rid of the movement problems. After that the game gets much easier. That's probably why I never really played PC games; b/c of all the fiddling that needed to be done. At least I haven't had any problems with it crashing (I'm running Vista as well.)

  • Win a free Games on Demand code for BioShock! (Among other stuff.) by Ryan Kuo

    I would love a code for Bioshock Mr. Kuo. I never got around to playing it when it first came out and have been waiting for it to come down in price for the PS3 version, but hey; free will do nicely.

    I would have to say that one of the best finishing moves I have pulled off has been sliding off the float after killing Lemmy Koopa in Super Mario World just as the level end screen hits. Mario floats in a tucked position right on top of the lava as the screen fades to black...

    Well... I forgot how hard this game was. After fiddling with the keyboard/mouse controls and not being able to find a configuration where I could manage all the buttons needed, I downloaded an application so that I could use my Dualshock2 and play MDK2. It still plays remarkably well for an older game; and it brings back the hurt of old school gaming as well. Luckily I recently played through the original Doom on my Xbox360 so I'm still a little used to the idea of no planes when shooting. I forgot about how the grunts waggle their butts at you through the barriers. Pretty funny. Save points are weird as the game gives no indication (that I can see) as to where it actually saves. It brings back memories of sitting in my basement in college and taking turns playing this game with my brother though. I will try to finish it through this weekend and give comments throughout, but as I no longer have the amount of free time that I did skipping college classes 12 years ago. My suggestions for the next Adventurer's Club game are Maniac Mansion (then Day of the Tentacle later), or Abe's Odyssey.
    Let's plow through this beast.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
