LOL. I think TaintedKane summed it up about 11 times.

Is that last pic a leaked screenshot from Shadow of the Colossus II?

@Sketched Gecko: "As a soldier...you have to look underneath your orders." Isn't this what the gamers who are so appalled by this scene wish they could be doing, but can't because of Infinity Ward's feeble attempt at making an ethical statement?Good argument Tom, and I feel it's worth mentioning again the point Kyle made in another article (can't remember which) that copping out and saying "it's just a game" marginalizes our medium and spits in the face of developers who've worked so hard to state to the world that yes, at least on some level, video games are art. Given the media attention that MW2 is getting from certain radical "news" outlets, IW may have inadvertently set the entire game industry back a couple of years in the eyes of the public when it looks like they set out to do the opposite. The more I read about this game, the more it sounds like IW is trying to make the CoD franchise into the next Halo. They're certainly grabbing at that same fanatical fanbase, at least.

@KyleOrland: Good point, it's a good thing it was on so early. Given how much press the Fort Hood tragedy is getting though, and given Fox's sterling "fair and balanced" reputation, I'm honestly surprised they didn't air this during fucking prime time. This is how Fox News works, though. I have the ominous feeling that all I'm doing is pouring gas onto a fire...

Fox News is more damaging to your psyche than any violent video game ever could be. Make the adult decision--choose not to expose yourself to this mindless drivel and get your news from legitimate sources.

This is just one example of why CG is my homepage. Great story Kyle, makes me want to hit the arcades all over again just like when I was a kid.

Not sure if this counts as an "in-game gadget," but my favorite would probably have to be the sound test feature that so many classic games have. No better way to listen to chiptunes than straight from the game itself, with every individual track waiting for you just inside the options menu. As I write this, the Stage 1 music from Batman Returns for the SNES is casting my Constitutional Law reading assignment in a COMPLETELY different light lol.

Re: Re: savestates -- For every Crispy Adventure Club(tm) challenge, I'll do my best not to use savestates at all, unless the game is absolutely impossible to finish without them (see: Battletoads). Savestates aren't even really that necessary for a game that has built-in save points like StarTropics. All bets are off for games that have password systems though ;).

For those of us using the aforementioned "legal gray area" method, are savestates allowed? I'm assuming they're not, since they would really uneven the playing field.

StarTropics isn't a bad game, but you have to talk to EVERYONE on Coca-Cola Island (or whatever the hell the first area is called) in order to advance the plot. And that damn code to start the submarine!

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too. » Read On
