Brutal Legend is brilliant. Unfortunately, I can't play it since my ol' 360 did the red ring dance of death last night. So sad...So now I'm "stuck" with Uncharted 2 and the new Ratchet.

Man, I love Crispy reviews. I may not always agree, but it's nice to read something that doesn't sound like its notes were taken from the same PR copy that everyone else is using. This game always intrigued me but it's becoming clear that nobody bothered to build an engaging world or narrative to tie everything together. I hate to be one of "those" people, but yeah, I need a little story to go with my shooting.

While I don't think Uncharted 2 has as much wit or soul as the original, I find the gameplay mechanics and pacing (especially the pacing!) to be drastically improved. I do miss Elena, however; Chloe is as bland a video game chick as you're likely to find.Digging it overall, though.

Wow. More of these retro reviews, please! I feel like the best critical writing is done long after the game/movie/album has been released.I must admit I never finished this game. I loved it while playing it but stopped for a while and then had no clue where I was supposed to go or who to talk to.

This is probably why Flower is by far my favorite game of the year. And why I haven't touched Fable 2 since cracking it open a few weeks back; that first hour was so blissful that I'm afraid of tainting it with twenty more hours of the same thing.

Great review, Gus. Very Infinite Summer of you...I'll admit that Suda's games haven't done a lot for me. Killer 7's game mechanics were just horribly clunky and as much as I adored the premise and art style and general batshittery, I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I should track down the GC version? I liked No More Heroes initially but then the gameplay wore thin.I really feel I should like his stuff because I'm all for developers who shake up the boring same ol' and just fuck around with the format. But the actual game just keeps me at arm's length. Maybe Flower, Sun and Rain is the breakthrough since it's more of an adventure game.

Gus, you forgot Max's unforgettable turn as the shopkeeper/Lucifer in Fraser Heston's 1993 horror classic, Needful Things.
