I'm pretty sure I threw down more than $50 msrp for certain snes rpgs when they came out. When I was young, I hand plenty of time, but not much money. Now, I have enough money to buy whatever games I want, but time is the restraint.More often than not, a game that lasts a hundred hours I stay away from- much of that huge time sink is filler and not as enjoyable. But game reviewers rarely knock a game for being too long, while reviewers kill games that are too short.A tight game that is fun from start to finish and clocks in at less than 10 hours is what I target.

I read the Times, especially on Saturday and Sunday during the lazy summer weekends. Gaming is not the papers strongpoint (nor is technology). I read the Beatles article, and I would argue the editor is more to blame than Schiesel. love to game with my gf, iphone cannot compete there. it also can't compete for longterm gaming sessions. Maybe there one day will be a crap-it's-4-am game like the civ series. And the low pricepoint for games prevents anything that has an epic feel to it. If someone said you had to lose either console, dedicated portable, pc or cellphone/ipod gaming- ipod would be the first to go, easily.Still, the more vehicles available for gaming, the better for everyone.

Game developers in the present can't take an advance from their future selves raking in the sales from the formerly freeloading gamer, now converted into a new game buyer.Nor can they easily track how many gamers played their game on the used market, and determine what the budget will be on the next game, or if there are enough people who want a sequel. And when the overall economy sours, and a person no longer has $100 for entertainment, but instead $80 or $50- well what's to stop the game buyer from regressing back into the used game freerider?
