  • Ding! - 3/12/2009

    @Newb:

    Your post is either the most pathetic attempt at humor I've ever seen, or else evidence that you are a deceptive and incredibly immature person. Given that it is now "tomorrow" from the perspective of your post means that, if the latter, you are also a blatant liar.

    And that's the last straw. I won't be coming back here. This comic needs to be written off as a loss, and I refuse to support it in any way anymore.

    @world_of_failcraft:

    You don't have a following at all, you idiot, unless you count people who don't think that being stupid is a bannable offense as your "following."

    Most of the people voting for your ban are more interested in you than the people voting against it.

    @dman0001:

    I agree with you that that would be a valid reason to ban, but there's no evidence to suggest that people are leaving because of his idiocy. So your point is moot.

    People come here because of the comics, not the comments, for the most part, and of the small percentage of people who bother with the comments at all, there are, what, like 5(?) people who actually care about his comments enough to reply, and none of them are showing any signs of leaving.

    Meh.

    Failcraft is annoying, and petty, and pathetic, but he shouldn't be banned for any of that. The fact that the people that he claims take WoW too seriously are the same kind of people who take forum comments too seriously kind of makes his point valid, in a roundabout way.

    I mean, we're talking about an unimportant comment about an unimportant spoof of an unimportant game, that people are getting upset about here. Getting worked up about it means you have some serious issues to work through. Learn to relax.

    1) This comic was genuinely funny on its own merit. While Kissybear is cool and I'm glad to see him back, the "true story" format could have been laid out pretty much just like this and it would have been fine. There weren't that many people before who were complaining about the lack of Kissybear compared to the number of people who hated the concept of a comic strip that was narrated the whole way through.

    2) I'm surprised and impressed to see Scott's effort here, both because it takes humility to take critical feedback (especially for someone who is on record as having said that critics have nothing to contribute to art), and because Ding! looked so much like a lost cause. Whether or not he was forced into updating, he gets kudos from me.

    3) Signing up on the boards for a reason other than to flame anyone who complains was cool too. I'll choose not to elaborate more on this point.

    4) Newb, you are a total sycophant. Are you a robot that was designed to spit out press releases or something? I mean, you do realize that the things you said in your comments on this page directly contradict the comments you made on the past few pages, right? Seriously, have an original thought once in a while. You make the average citizen of Oceania look like a soul-searching rebel.

    I think it's fair to say at this point that this comic is dead. Kurtz has had longer periods between comics than this so far, but never when the comic was so unpopular.

    He's probably lost pretty much all of his readership by now: he's shown that he is both incapable of making this comic entertaining and incapable of making it consistent, and he hasn't even made the effort to salvage some readers by explaining why.

    The only thing keeping this site alive anymore are the comments. I guess that's more of an undeath than anything actually alive, actually. Scott has abandoned this comic; there is no reason to think he's even thinking about maybe, possibly, updating it anymore at this point.

    Anyway, to the guy who says this is his story and that it was pre-BC, how did you have a Belf lock before BC came out? Or is that supposed to be a REALLY poorly-drawn troll?

    Anyone want to bet on whether we'll get an update tomorrow?

    What will be really interesting to see is how many more hits this page generates even when we don't see an update. Keep posting, everyone! Support Kurtz' lifestyle of leeching off of ad banners! I know I will. That way he hopefully won't post another retarded anecdote (probably one of Newb's), and I can keep up the delusion that Ding! might someday go back to being funny.

    So Wykd, explain why you read the comments, then. Also, explain why you bother complaining about the comments, when you're doing NOTHING different by complaining than the people you're complaining about.

    I honestly wonder how much traffic this site would get anymore if they took away the comments page. Especially considering that the comic is updating twice monthly now, it seems.

    It's understandable, I guess, to a degree, that Scott ran out of interesting material from his own WoW experience, so I can see turning to other people for ideas. But did he also run out of storytelling ability? Because I can't see why else he would leave these anecdotes as anecdotes (with pictures!), and not, you know, turn them into comics.

    Some random guys are frustrated at a low drop rate, and start jumping up and down. Haha. Seriously, try to adapt it enough to the medium that we can pretend like their behavior is meaningful in some way, and not just petulant, useless whining about a game. Even roleplayers would see this as pathetic.

    Also, congratulations on only being 9 days late with the comic. Terrible as it is, I think we have to call this improvement. I may actually bother checking back some time in February if this keeps up.

    Paying for something isn't what makes it possible to complain about it. The fact that every person who comes to this site is being exploited in one way or another, is what makes it possible to complain about it.

    People don't come here to complain, and they don't come here to give Scott as many hits as possible for his advertising revenue. They don't come here for any of the things that actually end up happening, and that's a shame.

    Scott benefits from the hits on this site whether or not he updates the comic, and that's exploitation.

    Scott doesn't have a responsibility to us for anything, but he should realize that the cost of not even trying to keep promises is that no one who's reasonably intelligent will respect him, or cut him any slack.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
