Last night I binged on the original Left 4 Dead. On the one hand I'm frustrated that the game was unable to retain the interest of so many people, which means the community is a bit lackluster and it's hard to get regular groups to play with. On the other hand, when you're playing with 3 cool, skilled people, I'm hard-pressed to think of another shooter that is as taut and absorbing. 1 more campaign to go for the "What are you trying to prove?" achievement, 20,000 more zombies to make it a genocide.Going to finish up World in Conflict this weekend as well. I like it, but I sometimes suspect I shouldn't.

Hugely busy weekend, not sure I can fit it all in. In addition to all my gaming, my girlfriend and I are watching the Director's Cut of Das Boot, which cruises past the three hour mark.Gaming-wise: another Silent Hunter III mission, plus a mission in World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. Then I want to try out Killing Floor on its free weekend. I also want to see if I can get Shogun: Total War going on my Vista machine. Then I need to revisit Far Cry 2 so I'll have something to talk about when Clint Hocking hits town next week.I guess this is a pretty good problem to have, though. The only question is how awesome this weekend can get.

I'm patrolling the North Atlantic in Silent Hunter III this weekend. It's the spring of 1940, so things are starting to get more interesting in that game.I've also finally resolved some technical issues with World in Conflict, so I'll be continuing along in that. Don't know quite what to make of the game yet. It's spectacular, certainly, but the single-player doesn't seem to ask much beyond, "Call in airstrikes and artillery. Blast the hell out of everything. Repeat." Happily, that's just what the doctor ordered for a rainy Boston Sunday.

Dear Crispy Gamer staff:DON'T change ANYTHING about your reviews. Good God, I might expect this discussion over at one of the numerous sites doing cookie-cutter Pro / Con and Story - Graphics - Gameplay reviews, but not here. They are also what I'm mostly likely to come to CG to read. The reviews here are interesting. Usually more than the games being reviewed. Your reviewers tend to be a bit more credible both in terms of ability and in terms of experience than those reviewing for other sites. They are long enough to permit interesting approaches to the topic, but not so exhaustive that my attention gives out before the conclusion. All of this differentiates CG from other outlets.Bottom line: keep doing what you guys are doing, and just find a way to make more people aware of what's on offer in a CG review.

"A Force More Powerful" is another good one in this vein. It ranges from simple collective action problems to more nuanced situations where you have to interpret intelligence and mask your strength. Very tough, and really gets at the problems of coalition-building and hostile negotiation. Kinda boring, but powerfully illustrative.

What a sorry, disappointing mess. It was a done-deal that I would be purchasing this game for Christmas. I've been looking forward to it since playing it on a friend's PS3. But the copy protection was a huge turn-off. Mind you, I'm a reasonable man when it comes to DRM systems. I've never had any complaints about SecuROM. However, few are the games that are so good that I will cheerfully say, "Oh, go ahead, install whatever bloatware you like!" And then the game is a bit broken besides. Pi
