I guess it depends a lot on the type of game. I know many a person who will sit enthralled by Tetris hour after hour and the only real progression in that game is that it gets fast and hard but little else - it's the challenge that hooks you. I think a lot of the shooter and adventure type games (particularly consoles) suffer from a lack of a defined story arc, perhaps from the aforementioned multi-player syndrome, perhaps lack of coordination in the development process, or perhaps because the developers don't have a clear picture of where they want to go in the game. They have a strong start, a defined end, but no real map of how they are going to move between the two except for a series of "levels" in between. Better story development and not being afraid to make "short" games would help solve this problem greatly.

Dude, you don't remember Kristanna Loken as the incredibly sexy blond terminatrix from T3? Granted she's the only thing worth watching (well, maybe Clare Danes wasn't too bad herself)...hmmm what was T3 about again? Unfortunately movie spin-offs usually tend to be bad, this is no surprise.

I remember playing some kind of Star Trek game on one of the (can't remember) either Apple PC or maybe a Commodore 64. All I remember is that it was on a cassette tape and you had to run the tape for a few minutes to load the game- wow, before even floppy discs were common place. I'm not that old! I think I was probably 10 at the time. The first game I bought (well begged my parents for was an Atari 2600 with Donkey Kong and Pac Man) Still wish I had the Atari 2600 these days - my PS3 is more capable and flashy, but I had a lot of fun on the 2600...

When I first saw the previews for Dead Space, I knew I had to have it. I've only played it for a few hours (also sharing my time between Fallout3 and BioShock) and I am very impressed. At first I died horribly (even on easy level) and then I started to figure out the controls (I've only owned my PS3 for 3 months.) I really like the game. The only thing I don't like is when the bad guys get too close to you, it's basically over. Would have liked a combo or something to be able to do a last desperate "push" or "kick" at the mutant, hopefully getting enough time to level your weapon at them. Very cool game, reminiscent of the atmosphere in the original "alien" movie. That's what I like about it. Survival, exploration, and explosions! Rock on!

I don't own an Xbox and my PC is ancient. My wife just gave me a PS3, so the choice was easy. I have only played the first few levels and I love this game. The story, the atmosphere, the dolby sound effects all combine to make a truly landmark game. I even like how (at least on the easy level) you can get hints and view maps and read about the various items in the game. A nice touch is the diary system to get more of the back story and info about goals. This is an awesome game for any platform!
