Penny Arcade Adventures Episode Two Released

The second RPG featuring the dark humor of the Penny Arcade team is available on Xbox Live Arcade, Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Developed by Hothead Games and the team behind the Penny Arcade web comic, Episode Two of the RPG-adventure game series lets players jump right back into a fresh character and new customization options or carry over their look and stats from Episode One. Episode Two offers more puzzles, new areas to explore, levels to gain and new difficulty settings.

The Xbox Live Arcade version is rated “M” and retails for 1200 MS Points. The PC and Mac-based version are available from www.hotheadgames.com.

PAX 2008 Reminder

pax PAX 2008 Reminder industryThe organizers of the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) today sent a reminder that this year’s gaming festival will begin later this week. PAX 2008 is being held August 29-31 and the group expects to draw over 45,000 gamers, industry professionals and media to the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle for the 3-day event.

Attendee badges may be purchased at the door at $30 for a one-day badge or $60 for all three days of the show. Is it any wonder that they expect so many to attend this event, given that most of our industry’s biggest shows are a shut-out for regular gamers? Highlights after the jump:

PAX Press Pre-Registration Ends Soon

If you are a media type and you want special treatment at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), then you have until midnight tonight to get that registration in. The organizers of PAX announced that media pre-registration ends Friday, August 22 at 11:59p.m. Pacific Time.

If you want to sign up for the event as a member of the media you’ll need some credentials like a business card with your name, editorial title, and media outlet logo or (for freelancers) a letter on letterhead from the assigning editor with his/her contact information; a government issued ID, and a recently bylined article written by you.

After August 22, all media registrations will be handled at the show, beginning Friday, August 29 at 2:00pm. Every on-site applicant must bring hard copies of the required credentials and his/her media outlet’s business license to Will Call for on-site processing. PAX staff reserve the right to deny media badges to anyone with insufficient documentation.

East Coast PAX in 2010

tycho1 East Coast PAX in 2010 otherIn a few years, the Penny Arcade Expo will not be mutually exclusive to the West Coast if founders Gabe and Tycho have their way.

In a post on the Penny Arcade site Tycho talked about fulfilling a promise he made while speaking at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology a few years ago to bring the popular fan friendly gaming event to the East Coast. Tycho offers the game plan for making an East Coast PAX a reality:

PAX Pre-Registration Ending Soon

Pre-registration for the Penny Arcade Expo closes Thursday, July 31. The annual gaming festival at the Washington State Trade and Convention Center in Seattle takes place August 29-31. The organizers of the event say that, based on current pre-registration numbers, attendance is expected to break 45,000 attendees.

This year’s keynote speaker for the event is 2K Boston’s Ken Levine, the mad genius behind the hit game Bioshock. Other panels and presentations of note taking place at PAX this year include History of Harmonix: THE ROCKENING, How to Make the World Notice Your Video Game Blog, The Mega64 ‘Panel! At The Expo,’ The Power of Gaming Communities and GamerDad’s “Gaming With Children.”

Fans of the often brilliant Penny-Arcade comic will be happy to hear that Hothead Games has announced Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness — Episode One has reached gold status (winner of the longest game title ever?).

The game starring the lovable Tycho and Gabe will be available for download via Greenhouse digital download service. for $19.95 near the end of this quarter.

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is an episodic RPG-adventure game series set in a deranged comic-book meets-pulp-horror 1920s universe.
