Gameloft announced today that it has sold over 6 million games on the App Store from a catalog offering everything from action to casual and sports games. The company currently has 35 games available on the App Store, of which 18 have made the Top 10 Paid Games list worldwide. The iPhone OS continues to be Gameloft’s number one platform.

Top sellers from Gameloft in 2009 include Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, NFL 2010 (US and Canada), Guitar Rock Tour 2, The Oregon Trail, Real Tennis 2009, Let’s Golf!, Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles, UNO and Terminator Salvation. In addition Gameloft’s backlog titles continue to hit the Top 10 Paid Games list across multiple countries worldwide.

The company plans to launch 15-30 titles for the App Store through the end of 2009.

GRIN no more

bcr_screenshot_ign_16-640x GRIN no more industry

GRIN is no more, according to a sobering message from GRIN founders Bo and Ulf Andersson on the company’s official web site. GRIN’s most recent works include Bionic Commando, Bionic Commando: Rearmed for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, and Terminator: Salvation.

The closure follows a string of closures and personnel cuts but the number one reason cited for this recent decision was “delayed publisher payments.” Which publishers we do not know, but it probably didn’t help that many of GRIN’s most recent games weren’t well received.

I’m personally thankful for Bionic Commando: Rearmed, which was a fairly decent recreation of the original NES game I loved so much. Full statement from GRIN after the break.

PC version of Terminator Salvation pulled from retail

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has issued a very brief statement on problems some players have been having with the PC version of Terminator Salvation. Apparently this bug, which does not affect other versions of the game, is serious enough to warrant pulling copies of the game off retail shelves. Full statement below:

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has been informed of a potential bug in the recent North American shipment of the PC product for Terminator Salvation the videogame. The bug does not extend to Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 product.

Our retail partners have been informed and directed to pull the PC product from shelves immediately. We expect replacement product to be available on shelves within the next 3-5 days.

Consumers who are encountering problems with the PC version of Terminator Salvation should email t4support@evolvedgames.com; details to get a replacement copy will be announced shortly.”

The last time I recall a game being pulled from retail shelves for s serious glitch was when Bungie yanked Myth 2 from shelves due to a serious issue with the installation software..

Terminator Salvation Video

I honestly don’t know if the game based on the new Christian Bale flick Terminator: Salvation, is going to suck or not. All of the Terminator video games that have been thus far are yawn inducing nonsense. I’ll wait for more details on the game, but this video from G4 is as good a starting point as any to get to form a general opinion. Check it out:

Warner Names Terminator Salvation Voiceover Cast

Well folks, in case you missed the news, there’s a new Terminator flick set to come out this Summer. Naturally, where there’s a big action packed Summer movie, there’s probably a video game tie-in coming in around the same time. Sure enough, the mouthful of Equity Games Production, Evolved Games, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, GRIN Studios, and Halcyon Games are all teaming up to bring a game based on the upcoming flick to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in time for the movie’s release in May. And while it might have been fun to listen to Christian Bale go off half cocked on some poor game developer during a voiceover session, that’s apparently got zero chance of happening.

WBIE Announces Terminator Salvation Game

Okay, so it’s pretty much a given that with a big blockbuster action movie, there’s going to be a video game adaptation of some kind. So it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, together with Equity Games Production and Halcyon Games, announce today that it’s currently working on a new third-person shooter based on the upcoming flick, Terminator Salvation, which opens nationwide on May 22, 2009.

Terminator Salvation: The Videogame offers players the chance to assume the role of John Connor, a soldier in the resistance, battling for survival against the far superior forces of Skynet. The title will be a third-person action game with concentrated armed combat against all of the Skynet enemies from the film while encountering new enemies specifically designed for the game. The game was developed by GRIN Studios, published by Equity Games, co-published by Evolved Games and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Terminator Salvation: The Videogame allows players to battle for survival against Skynet enemies utilizing an incredibly fluid and realistic control set,” said Cos Lazouras, President of Halcyon Games. “The player will be led through a visceral story with extremely polished production values to create a fully interactive Terminator experience.”

“Building on the incredibly strong franchise, Terminator Salvation: The Videogame will be a cinematic gaming experience that complements the upcoming film,” said John Quinn, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Working with Halcyon and Equity Games, we will expand on the Terminator universe on next generation consoles with action packed gameplay and detailed environments.”

The Games That Time Forgot

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
