Silent Hill: The Escape for 99 cents on iPhone
Konami Digital Entertainment has released Silent Hill: The Escape for 99 cents on the Apple App store from September 3 - 5. Konami’s popular survival horror franchise makes its way onto the iPhone and iPod touch, with platform specific feature, a first person perspective and 3D shooter action.
Once again players find themselves in a creepy little town armed only with a revolver and a dim flashlight. With these modest tools, players will have to navigate through eerie mazes while trying to locate keys to escape a monster-infested labyrinth. Players can roam the maps with caution and agility but one touch from the gruesome monsters and the game is over. A steady hand and precise accuracy are also crucial to swiftly reload the revolver, as even the slightest tremble will cause the bullets to go scattering to the floor.
Sounds like a harrowing experience.
Hudson reveals Calling
Hudson Entertainment today revealed its Wii-focused survival horror game Calling. The adventure horror title is set to be published by Hudson Entertainment, the North and South American publishing arm of HUDSON SOFT, and will be exclusive to Wii in 2010. Calling promises to “bring players face to face with death as they roam an alternate existence in an attempt to survive.” Sounds slightly more scary than seeing the belt on your father’s robe come loose and reveal a little too much putrid zombie flesh.
In Calling, players begin by visiting a mysterious “Black Page” website with a simple number counter. Some say it is a bridge to something sinister; the counter indicating the number of people who have died after visiting the page. It is said that people who have visited the site and witness a certain event are drawn into a mysterious space compiled of the memories of the dead - the space between life and death. Someone or something is drawing the living there for a reason, and it is up to the player to discover the horrifying truth. In order to do so, players will use various equipment including flash lights, phones, and other items to navigate and escape the Calling. The person that designed that web site should probably be fired..
Throughout the game players will visit various parts of the Calling world. Memories of houses, schools, hospitals and more bring players closer to either an escape or an untimely death. Players will solve puzzles, search and interact with objects, and ultimately try to avoid the inhabitance of this alternative existence.
Expect to hear more about this game in the future.
Dead Rising 2 details

Here’s something interesting that wasn’t quite apparent (to me) when Capcom let slip that a new Dead Rising was in the works: Frank West isn’t in the game. According to information released by Sega this week, Frank saved the United States from a zombie apocalypse, but outbreaks continue to happen. The latest outbreak is unfolding in Fortune city, a place that looks suspiciously like Las Vegas. Dead Rising 2 takes the action out of Wilamette and into the glitz and glamour of Fortune City, described as “America’s latest and greatest entertainment playground.” People go to this place to relax and win big, but you might want to talk to your travel agent about a locale that has less zombies.
The game sees the introduction of former national Motocross champion, Chuck Greene, as the hero. Capcom describes Chuck as a Motocross champion that had to work hard to get where he is. Starting small and of meager means, Chuck was forced to repair his own bikes, leaving him with an incredibly to fix things. A single father, Chuck has a young daughter Katey who he will do anything for. That’s our hero in Dead Rising 2, but it doesn’t sound like good old Chuck has a camera or a clue as to what about to happen to him or his daughter next.
Developed by Blue Castle Games, Dead Rising 2 promises hundreds of zombies on screen at any one time, new objects to use in new and exciting ways and lots of blood and gore. No details on actual game mechanics, but we’ll keep you posted.
The game is being developed by Canadian developer Blue Castle Games in close collaboration with Capcom and some of the original members of the Dead Rising development team. It currently has no tentative release date, but it will not be an Xbox 360 exclusive this time around: the game is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Dead Rising 2: Zombies Do Vegas?
I’ll be the first to admit that one of the games I was first looking forward to when the first Xbox 360 rolled off the assembly line was Capcom’s survival horror, Dead Rising. Frank West’s harrowing, over-the-top 72 hour adventure in the Willamette Mall was one of the best times I had on the 360. Now, Capcom is returning to the world of Dead Rising, and it’s bringing PS3 and PC owners along for the ride.
Earlier this morning, Capcom officially confirmed that a sequel to the popular zombie game is in development at Canadian developer Blue Castle Games, working alongside a number of members from the original Dead Rising team, including producer, Keiji Inafune. Although Capcom has kept quiet so far on a possible release date for Dead Rising 2, one thing the company did confirm is the new game will not be exclusive to the 360 this time around, instead being simultaneously developed for the 360, PS3, and PC. Sorry Wii owners, it looks like you’re going to be stuck with the neutered port of the first game for the foreseeable future.
Details on the plot of Dead Rising 2, are still being kept under wraps, but the game is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Apparently, the zombie virus was not contained at the end of Dead Rising and it ended up spreading unchecked throughout the United States. In Dead Rising 2, the latest outbreak hits ‘Fortune City’, and players will be gambling with more than just chips when they face off against the undead in the city’s massive hotel and casino. It looks like everyone’s favorite photojournalist, Frank West, might be a little busy this time around though (he’s covered wars, ya know), as both West and his camera are conspicuously absent from Capcom’s early screenshots.
More word on Dead Rising 2 is expected soon, and we’ll share what we learn as soon as information is released.

Early Dead Space Fans Get Console Exclusives

In space, no one can hear you scream. In Dead Space, though, that’s a whole different thing. Now gamers can start getting ready for some deep space horrors as Electronic Arts announced today that its upcoming title has officially gone gold. In addition to the news, EA also announced that players who buy the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions of the game within the first two weeks of the game’s release will get the chance to download an exclusive suit specific to each console. Xbox 360 fans can download the silver and green Xbox-themed Elite Suit over Xbox LIVE Marketplace, while PS3 owners can download the black and blue PlayStation-themed Obsidian Suit from the PlayStation Network. Both suits will feature new looks, as well as increased toughness and more inventory slots to help players face their horrors head-on.
Dead Space is set to ship to North American retailers on October 14th on the 360 and PS3. PC gamers will be able to get in on the action a week later on October 20th.
Silent Hill Homecoming Comes Home
Konami Digital Entertainment’s survival horror game, Silent Hill: Homecoming, creeps into retail today for the PS3 and Xbox 360 - and is also available via Steam for PC users. Homecoming marks the next-generation debut of the series, offering what you’d expect from a Silent Hill game: dark creepy locales, bizarre characters, a twisted story and plenty of scares.
Homecoming also promises a third-person camera view and a spiffy new combat system to mix things up. If you’re a fan of these kinds of games (I’m not, for the record, but don’t hate on me) then you’ll probably want to check this one out. It’s in stores right now, waiting for you.
