Namco Bandai is bringing balance to the Force, courtesy of new downloadable content for Soulcalibur IV. Due to overwhelming fan response, Namco Bandai revealed this morning that Darth Vader and Yoda will be available as downloadable characters for the game beginning on Thursday, October 23rd via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

When the game was first released, each sysem had characters which were console exclusive, with the Dark Lord of the Sith relegated to the PS3, while the Jedi Master was exiled to the 360. Now, PS3 owners will be able to pick up Yoda for $4.99, while 360 owners will be able to join the Dark Side for 400 Microsoft points, letting players decide once and for all which side of the Force is best.

12297pic1-lightningtroopers_300 Consumers Love Star Wars: The Force Unleashed actionNo matter what anyone thinks of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, consumers are snapping it up. My personal opinion? It’s an okay game - not great, not wonderful, just okay - but I digress.. Less than one week since its release, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide across multiple platforms.

Released on Sept. 16 in North America, Sept. 17 in Australia and Southeast Asia, and Sept.19 in Europe, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has demolished LucasArts sales records around the globe in record time. LucasArts shipped more than 4.3 million units of The Force Unleashed around the world in preparation for the game’s launch and the company says that it has already begun manufacturing and distributing additional copies.

Now that we have the sales data out of the way, I should point out our various The Force Unleashed reviews by Tom Chick, who did not find the game as enjoyable as others did - right after the jump:

nextgen-grip-640x The Force Unleashed Demo Shatters Download Record actionLucasArts is delighted with the number of downloads that the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo has garnered since its release on August 21. According to download data from Microsoft and Sony the demo was downloaded 2.3 million times worldwide on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. A great start for a potentially awesome game (if the demo is a good indication of what we can expect).

But the real news, according to LucasArts is that the demo was downloaded one million times in eight days, beating out the previous download record by one day.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed debuts in North America Sept. 16 for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The game will also be available Sept. 17 in Southeast Asia and Australia, and Sept. 19 in Europe.

nextgen-grip-640x Star Wars The Force Unleashed Demo Released actionPlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners can take utter delight in the fact that the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo is now available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. The demo gives players a taste of one of the early levels in the game: the TIE Fighter Construction Facility, under siege by a Jedi General named Rahm Kota. Playing as the Secret Apprentice, you are charged with hunting down and destroying the General and to leave no witnesses alive.

If you paid attention to any of the video coming out of E3 in July, then this level will look very familiar to you. Also included in the demo is a tutorial intended to teach players how to use their Force Grip power.

Jump online and grab it on your favorite system.

Soulcalibur IV Sells Through 2 Million Units

sc4_pub_ss_raphael_001_psd_jpgcopy-640x Soulcalibur IV Sells Through 2 Million Units actionIt should not come as a shock to anyone that Soulcalibur IV has sold over 2 million copies since its launch on July 29. I’ve been playing the Xbox 360 version of the game and — except for the platform agnostic control scheme in training and in the manual - i’m loving it. While Soulcalibur has always been a popular franchise, it probably doesn’t hurt that several key Star Wars charcters appear in both versions of the game.

Jedi Master Yoda appears in the Xbox 360 version, Darth Vader fights in the PS3 version, and Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice from LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed appears in both versions. Namco Bandai Games did not reveal actual numbers based on platform.

Soulcalibur IV is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB and carries a suggested MSRP of $59.99.
