Mad Catz secures Sonic license for new peripherals

Mad Catz Interactive has secured a license from Sega of America to produce branded videogame accessories based on Sonic the Hedgehog. The agreement gives Mad Catz North American rights to a range of accessories for all current videogame platforms.

“Sonic is one of the videogame industry’s most popular and enduring characters and we are thrilled to initiate this relationship with Sega to create Sonic-branded videogame accessories,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “We look forward to offering unique and exciting accessories to fans of this truly iconic videogame and popular culture character.”

Further details on the deal, like what kinds of accessories we can expect feature Sonic, are forthcoming.

This Week’s Wii Shop Channel Releases

This week Wii owners can two Wii Shop Channel classics and a brand new WiiWare game from Gameloft. For a mere 800 points you can buy Splatterhouse 2 as Rick continues his bloody mission to rescue his girl Jennifer using a combination of punches, slashes, smashes and the occasional chainsaw rampage. The game was originally released on the Sega Genesis.

Also available this week is Sonic the Hedgehog with a few extra levels that were only available in the Sega Master system version starring Sega’s fast and furious mascot. That little race down memory lane will cost you 500 points.

This week’s lone WiiWare release is Wild West Guns from Gameloft. The gallery shooting game for Wii features support for the Wii Zapper, 6 levels with 3 challenges per level, and additional levels and challenges as surprise bonuses. The game also supports two player multiplayer as well. Gameloft’s game goes for 1000 points.
