Mastiff’s Shimano Xtreme Fishing for Wii is now shipping to retailers throughout North America. Shimano Xtreme Fishing lets you go fishing using a traditional rod and reel or up close and personal with a spear gun and SCUBA gear, or bow and arrow. Those fish don’t stand much of a chance, do they?
Naturally all of the gear in the game will be heavily branded; Shimano Voltaeus fishing rods, Hoyt bows, AMS Bowfishing reels and accessories, and Muzzy arrow points.
Shimano Xtreme Fishing lets players use this gear in environments ranging from the cold dark waters of a North American reservoir to a roaring Amazon waterfall, Mayan ruins, the hidden lagoons of a southern island, and the shark-infested shipwrecks of a tropical sea. Shimano Xtreme Fishing includes a series of tournaments, each with varied scenery and unique weather conditions. As players progress through the levels, they will unlock new tackle, clothing and sporting accessories too. In total the game offers three careers, 12 tournaments, more than 65 stages and multiplayer. Find out more at www.sxf-game.com.

Red Baron collection now on Good Old Games
Classic games portal Good Old Games is bringing the classic Red Baron air-combat series to the masses this week, DRM-free and at a low, low price. Thanks to a fresh agreement with Mad Otter Games, GOG.com will offer the complete Red Baron series in one value-packed bundle for $9.99. This package includes the original Red Baron, the Red Baron Mission Builder to build your own crazy scenarios and Red Baron 3D. All of the stuff in this package will be DRM-free and Windows XP & Vista compatible.
In case you didn’t know here’s a little history on the series: The Red Baron series was created by Dynamix, who later got acquired by Sierra. The game is considered by many to one of the best and probably only World War I flight simulator - excluding games that involve Snoopy - but those aren’t real simulations for obvious reasons (no offense to Snoopy - you know I love you dawg!). The games allow players to fly authentic World War I aircraft in individual missions or campaign mode, as they accompany the famous World War I flying ace (again, not Snoopy) in his squadron or hunt him as a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising gold
Codemasters has announced that its military sandbox shooter, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has gone gold and will be available on October 6 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The company also announced that a new video showing off the Eagle Offense mission is now available at www.flashpointgame.com. The trailer reveals how a strategically vital airfield is turned into a bloody, chaotic battleground as a USMC force, accompanied by aerial support, assaults dug - in positions.
Codemasters’ in-house developed military sandbox shooter is loosely based on the original series of games conceived and developed by Bohemia Interactive. The game attempts to deliver the violence, ferocity and carnage of war as troops from two opposing sides use real world weapons, tactics and vehicles to take control of the battle.

New to the franchise is a shooting system known as VITALS (Visually Integrated Targeting and Lock-on System) that allows the player to focus on delivering an accurate shot to the prey’s vitals, while also creating a closer and more personal view of the animals as they react realistically to being hunted. Finally, players can create their own trophy buck - from customizing the rack, to the body and the color.

The triumphant return of Silent Hunter
Today, Ubisoft announced what it hopes will be the triumphant return of the classic submarine simulation games series Silent Hunter. The fifth iteration of the game, aptly titled Silent Hunter 5 is being developed by Ubisoft Romania and will be released for the PC in early 2010.
Silent Hunter 5 lets players take command of a German U-boat, fighting off Allied Forces in famous battles across Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea during World War II. For the first time in the series, players can see the game from a first-person perspective, which, from what i’m guessing, is a pretty big deal.
Other key features according to Ubisoft include the ability to observe and interact with your crew, the ability to select your targets with a new objective-driven campaign system, enemy AI that allegedly adjusts dynamically to your approach, a new user interface, and the promise of a more cinematic experience all around.

iRacing player takes on the real thing
Can a champion class simulation racer compete successfully in the real world professional race? At this Saturday’s Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup at the Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin we may just find out. John Prather, a top-rated competitor in iRacing.com’s online racing service will take part in his very first professional race. Prather is a top-rated competitor in iRacing.com’s online racing service who less than a month ago took his first laps in a racing car in the real world, will prove whether or not racing in a virtual environment can train you to do it in real life.
Prather is a 30-year-old IT professional who grew up around motorsports; his father was an amateur sports car racer. He’s the highest ranked North American road-racer among the more than 16,000 members across the globe who’ve joined iRacing in the 12 months since the service opened to the general public.
One person who believes Prather can succeed is the 2008 Jetta TDI champion, Josh Hurley, also an iRacer, who last year made no secret of the fact that the virtual laps he did in the simulator prior to real-world races gave him an advantage over his competitors.
“I expect that John will turn some heads this weekend,” said Hurley. “A lot of people are starting to understand that high-quality simulation can help an experienced driver make better use of on-track time in the real world and get better results. But I don’t think they grasp how much a person can learn just in the simulator before they ever get into a car. John has done hundreds of races in the iRacing service and run thousands of laps.”

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
