Kym Worthy and the Evils of Video Games

I touched upon this yesterday in The Rundown, but today let’s analyze the particulars. This week Wayne County, Michigan Prosecutor Kym Worthy released her list of Top 10 Violent Video Games Played By Teens. The list, which is actually a rehash of the Mature rated section of games from the National Institute on Media and the Family Video Game Report Card for 2008, feature’s a who’s who of the most popular “M” rated games in North America. The link between “teens wanting to play these particular games” is tenuous at best, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Silent Hill: Homecoming On Steam
If you don’t mind using Steam and feel that the PC is the best gaming system in the universe, then you may be pleased to hear that Konami’s Silent Hill: Homecoming is now available via Valve’s digital distribution platform. The horror survival game is available for immediate download and instant play for $44.99.
Silent Hill: Homecoming drags players kicking and screaming into the history of Silent Hill, revealing some of the evil that surrounds Toluca Lake. The story follows Alex Shepherd, who returns to his hometown of Shepherd’s Glen to investigate the disappearance of his brother. As he searches for answers, Alex discovers eerie occurrences that make it difficult to find the truth and maintain his grip on reality.

Silent Hill Homecoming Comes Home
Konami Digital Entertainment’s survival horror game, Silent Hill: Homecoming, creeps into retail today for the PS3 and Xbox 360 - and is also available via Steam for PC users. Homecoming marks the next-generation debut of the series, offering what you’d expect from a Silent Hill game: dark creepy locales, bizarre characters, a twisted story and plenty of scares.
Homecoming also promises a third-person camera view and a spiffy new combat system to mix things up. If you’re a fan of these kinds of games (I’m not, for the record, but don’t hate on me) then you’ll probably want to check this one out. It’s in stores right now, waiting for you.

Silent Hill Homecoming Coming To PC
Konami’s newest survival horror game in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill Homecoming, is coming to the PC, in addition to the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The fifth chapter in the series, Silent Hill Homecoming introduces a new protagonist to the mysterious town. The story follows truck driver Alex Shepherd, who returns to his hometown of Shepherd’s Glen to investigate the sudden disappearance of his brother and the strange occurrences taking place around town.
Shepherd follows a mystery that ultimately leads him away from Shepherd’s Glen to the strange streets of Silent Hill, where he faces the darkest horrors he’ll ever see. Sounds like fun for the whole family. Silent Hill Homecoming for the PC will be available as a digital download through Steam in September.
