Sega announced that it will offer an exclusive graphic novel to those consumers who pre-order The House of the Dead: Overkill. This special pre-order offer will be available soon from GameStop, GameCrazy and Amazon.com (while supplies last).

That graphic novel, “Prelude to an OVERKILL” tells the stories of Agent Washington and Varla Gunns, on the night before the violent and shocking events of the game take place. Illustrated by Steve Copter, of dissident punk band ‘Black Mekon’, this specially-commissioned comic is only available for those who pre-order the game.

The House of the Dead: Overkill will see Wii owners gunning down zombies in February 2009.

crossfire Cross Fire Site Goes Live actionG4BOX has launched the official web site for its upcoming online first-person shooter, Cross Fire. In addition to the web site, which offers some video, screenshots and information on the game, users can sign up, take part in the community and prepare for the beta launch later this year. G4Box says that it will give early access to the beta to those who are early adopters in the community. The closed beta will kick off in early November.

In Cross Fire, players join one of two international mercenary corporations (Global Risk mercenary or a
Black List terrorist) working to complete objective-based scenarios.
Cross Fire in its current state seems like a poor man’s Counter-Strike, but hopefully that impression will melt away once we see the game first-hand. the developers promise four modes of play Team Match, Team Death Match, Annihilation, and
the all-new Ghost Mode for up to 16 players in one session. the game also promises a military ranking system (unlocking exclusive items and gear as they advance),

player customization (items, weapons, and equipment), an integrated friends list and clan formation system and more. Find out more at the new official site, located at www.crossfire-en.com.

Combat Arms - One Million Strong and Growing

I love rooting for the underdog, and MMO company Nexon certainly qualifies. The company announced that its online action game, Combat Arms, is experience robust registrations clocking over one million registered users since its open beta launch in July. Combat Arms was commercially launched on October 1 with the “Black Market,” an in-game item shop that allows users to spend real-world cash money on character customizations.

To commemorate this milestone, Nexon will unveil two patches including a new map and game mode that will offer a variety of game play options. The new map, “Waverider,” which is set in a European hilltop town, will be the game’s largest map. Waverider will feature new weapons, two supply cases, special event gear and a new male mercenary for Halloween. In addition, Nexon will also introduce a new hide-and-seek game mode, “Bounty Hunter,” which enables one player to randomly become the “bounty,” who will be the target hunted by other players. The longer the bounty stays alive, the more in-game currency that player will earn.

Combat Arms is available free for at combatarms.nexon.net.

Far Cry 2 Gold, in Stores Oct. 21

fc2_screen_1-640x Far Cry 2 Gold, in Stores Oct. 21 actionUbisoft’s in-house developed Far Cry sequel has gone gold and will be in stores October 21. Out of the hands of Crytek and pressed ever so gently to the bosom of Ubisoft Montreal, the sequel promises to discard the science fiction injected into the follow-up games and bring the series back to its roots with a wide open world, intuitive AI, and slick graphics. Hopefully the sequel will be more than just a glorified benchmarking tool.

The million dollar questions is “Will Far Cry 2 simply be filler as shooter fans wait for games like Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty World at War?” or will it carve out its own niche? That all depends on how great this game is. You can trust Crispy Gamer to give you an honest evaluation of this game when it ships next week.

What better time is there than the middle of a presidential election to start talking about the Secret Service? With that in mind, Activision announced today that it plans to release Secret Service, a new tactical first person action game. Secret Service will feature story and level design contributions by Daniel Arey, who previously worked on Uncharted, the Jak series, and the Crash Bandicoot series. The game will be released later this year for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PC.
