Rock Band 2 update brings Rock Band Network beta online

Harmonix has released a major update to Rock Band 2 today that adds a number of tweaks, fixes and features - including a new Audition mode for the Rock Band Network that lets users upload music tracks from their PC and try them out using the game’s magical Rock Band tools. This new update is live on Xbox 360 and is certification for PS3 according to several published reports. While the network is still in closed beta right now (which means not everyone can check it out at this very moment), the full unabashed version will be deployed to the game in a few weeks.

Other things coming soon to Rock Band 2 include background downloading, Xbox 360 wireless microphone support, a Sort By Stars option for quick play mode and lots more.

Harmonix reveals Rock Band Network

rbn Harmonix reveals Rock Band Network genresHarmonix today revealed the Rock Band Network, a new service much like Microsoft’s XNA Creator’s Club, that allows musicians and record labels to author their own original recordings and create Rock Band gameplay files to sell through a new Music Store. The introduction of this service marks a fundamental shift in the exposure music games can give emerging and established artists through technologies that will open new revenue streams and promotional avenues, says Harmonix.

The Rock Band Network will launch as an open beta in late August in the U.S. Artists will be provide a toolset, documentation on how bands can begin the process of authoring songs into Rock Band gameplay files, and a support system. Authors will be able to submit tracks for playtesting and peer review via a specialized Web site, Creators.RockBand.com.
