LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm Coming to PSP
So, you thought the PSP was dead, eh? Or at least living on borrowed time? Not so, says Sony, especially if its recently announced 2009 lineup is any indication. According to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Sony’s Little Handheld That Could will be chugging along uphill in 2009, as some of the most popular titles on its PlayStation 3 big brother get shrunken down for new PSP releases.
“There are a lot of big claims in the gaming industry but we’re confident when we say that 2009 is going to be an exciting year for PSP,” said Mark Hardy, European Marketing Director, SCEE. “Our fans have demanded big PSP titles and this year, we’re going to deliver again and again. With Resistance: Retribution, already on its way to stores, PSP gamers are going to get one big franchise after another.”

Rumor: Syphon Filter 5 in Development
VG247 has unearthed what could be an indication that Sony is developing Syphon Filter 5 for the PS3. PCB Productions, which does digital audio recording and motion capture for a variety of industries (film, television, video games), has listed the game in an impressive list of credits and pegs Sony Bend Studios as the developer.
The company credits itself with some motion capture work that it apparently did for Sony. Sony Bend Studios is best known as the developer of Resistance: Retribution for the PSP.
We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
Resistance Retribution Details
Earlier this week, Resistance: Retribution was announced at the Sony E3 press conference, but no details were revealed. Here is what little Sony has revealed about the title since then; Retribution is a third-person action adventure game set in the same universe as Insomniac’s PS3 launch title, that serves as a bridge between the first game and the upcoming sequel.
The story focuses on former British Marine James Grayson, who is forced to kill his own brother - a victim of a Chimeran conversion center. This leads Grayson on a path of destruction, destroying any of these horrible places he can find, which inevitably leads him to the European resistance – the Maquis - and two new allies: Cartwright and Parker. The trio embark an a mission to retake the European continent called Operation Overstrike.
The game, which is being developed by Bend, will utilize a new engine, large scale environments, a liberal checkpoint system, a third person targeting system designed specifically for the PSP, weapons from Resistance (along with some new ones), 10 different types of enemies (some from Resistance 2) and multiplayer modes including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation available via ad-hoc and infrastructure.
Resistance: Retribution will be released in spring 2009.
