Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising revealed
THQ’s and its wholly owned studio Relic Entertainment announced Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising, a new standalone expansion to the company’s real-time strategy series set in Game workshop’s popular universe. The game is scheduled for release on Games For Windows-LIVE in spring 2010.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising features a new playable army, the traitorous Chaos Space Marines, and continues the story of the Blood Ravens as they battle this new enemy. Chaos Rising offers new single-player and co-op campaigns, a level cap increase from 20 to 30, more powerful war-gear and a suite of new multiplayer options. The exclusive first look preview of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising will be featured in PC Gamer’s December issue, available on newsstands by October 12.

Company of Heroes Online coming to South Korea
THQ has signed a deal with Windysoft Co., Ltd to publish Company of Heroes Online, an online-only version of THQ’s popular 3D real-time strategy PC game Company of Heroes, for the South Korean market. Under the terms of the deal, Windysoft will act as the exclusive service provider of Company of Heroes Online in South Korea, managing everything from distribution to customer service and community management. THQ will work closely with Windysoft to provide ongoing technical support and live content for the game.
“We selected Windysoft to operate THQ’s Company of Heroes online game in South Korea because of their strong expertise and success in online PC Publishing as well as their passion to deliver an exceptional gaming experience to the Korean gamer,” said Martin Good, Senior Vice President, THQ Asia Pacific and Global Online Publishing. “We look forward to working very closely with them to achieve great success.”
Relic working on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
THQ has announced Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, an action role-playing game from Relic Entertainment that offers those not familiar with Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer universe. The Action-RPG title will put players in control of individual units throughout a narrative-driven story campaign and in wide-scale online battles. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be unveiled at E3 2009 in THQ’s booth – number 5300 in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine s being developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Further details will be revealed next week, though one would hope the setting would lend itself to a gritty, hardcore action experience.

Vigil, Volition keeping busy
According to GameSpot story, a slide seen in an THQ investors’ presentation from February (click the screenshot to the left to check it out) offers a sneak peek at its release schedule for the next few fiscal quarters.

Company of Heroes Online: A persistent world RTS co-developed with Chinese online company Shanda is supposedly coming to the United States sometime in 2009-early 2010

Also in the presentation, THQ promised a continued emphasis on its popular wrestling and fighting franchises, as well as more games from developers Kaos Studios (Frontlines), Juice Games (Juiced) and Blue Tongue (de Blob and the upcoming Marvel Super Hero Squad).
Conspicuously absent from the presentation was Big Huge Games, which is working on an as yet unnamed RPG headed up by Ken Rolston of Oblivion and Morrowind fame. BHG was recently hit with numerous layoffs and THQ has said it is looking for a buyer for the studio.

Smoking Gun Secures Millions in Funding
Here’s a fact that shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. It takes money to make video games. And if you’re planning to make a really good game? Well, it might take a lot more money. That’s a lesson independent game studio Smoking Gun Interactive is taking to heart. The studio announced today that it recently finalized a multi-year, multi-million dollar financing agreement with private investors to expand the studio and the development of an as-of-yet undisclosed new property.
“This injection of private capital allows us to continue to control our own destiny, and deliver on our vision of taking interactive entertainment in new directions, and redefining what tomorrow’s games can be”, said John Johnson CEO and Creative Director of Smoking Gun Interactive, “We’ve expanded our core team with some exceptional talent, and with this financial expansion we’re now looking forward to welcoming new faces to our team and new partners to our business, as we become a leading force in independent games development.”
