Dante’s Inferno book re-issue in the works at Random House inprint

Dante's Inferno - The Game - The Book

Dante's Inferno The Game becomes The Book .. again.

Electronic Arts and Del Rey Books (an imprint of Ballantine Books at the Random House Publishing Group) announced that a trade-paperback edition of the classic poem Inferno, part one of The Divine Comedy, will be distributed to booksellers nationwide on Jan. 19. The whole point of the special edition of the canonized poem is to celebrate the launch of Dante’s Inferno on various platforms.

The new edition features an introduction written by Dante’s Inferno Executive Producer, Jonathan Knight, who will – we’re told – offer insight into the arduous process of adapting a classic literary masterpiece into an interactive medium. The book will also feature a 16-page, full-color art insert showcasing the evolution of characters and environments from the classic poem to the video game. Literary purists are probably putting on the sackcloth and covering their heads with ashes as they reads this news.

Dante’s Inferno will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PSP on Feb. 9. A free demo is now available for download on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Dante’s Inferno is rated M for Mature by the ESRB and 18+ by PEGI.

Harold Goldberg’s Game Junkies Save The World!

writer0010 225 Harold Goldbergs Game Junkies Save The World! The Game Trust is an eclectic group of the most talented game journalists in the United States, so it never surprises us when one of our own decides to delve even deeper into the back story of the game industry’s long and storied history. Harold Goldberg is certainly not a stranger to writing books (his first was a book called My Life Among The Serial Killers, which he co-authored with Helen Morrison), but his new book is of particular interest to gamers because it promises to explore the game industry – from its humble beginnings all the way to the billion dollar industry it is today.

Over the past year, I’ve been carefully honing, editing, changing and adding to a book proposal,” Goldberg said in a note he plans to post tomorrow. “Right now, the book is called Game Junkies Save The World!

The new book may not be a departure from the excellent travel logs, reviews and columns he regularly contributes to Crispy Gamer, but it certainly different from My Life Among The Serial Killers. Published in over 17 countries, and serialized in The Times of London, the book he helped co-author was a dark, difficult book to write because of its subject matter and disturbing context.

Game Junkies Save The World! is described as a book that “delves deeply into the fascinating stories, anecdotes and facts that have not yet been reported in an industry that’s actually been around for 50 years (if you take Higinbotham’s bold experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory as a starting point).”

The new book will be published by Random House, a publisher that Goldberg says gets the whole concept of the book.
