Prototype coming June 9
Altered genetics, mutations, and consuming game play … literally. It’s coming.
Prototype, the upcoming action game from Radical Entertainment is scheduled to ship June 9 in North America for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. If you live in Europe, shipping will be four days earlier, according to publisher Activision. The game still has yet to be rated, but Activision is assuming an M rating from the Enteratinment Software Rating Board.
The game follows Alex Mercer as he tries to get back his lost memory amd figure out who screwed up his genes. He can assume the shape of any person he consumes, so look out Manhattan. It’s shapeshifters gone wild.
For more details on the game, check out what the Game Trust had to say in our Crispy Outlook 2009 feature.
Hothead Games Gets ‘Radical’ New CEO
It looks like there’s been a bit of the ol’ corporate shuffle going on this morning over at the offices of Hothead Games, the company behind the Penny Arcade Adventures games. Earlier today, the studio announced that it has managed to corral former Radical Entertainment president and CEO Ian Wilkinson as its new president and CEO, effective immediately. Wilkinson oversaw Radical’s growth from a startup company to an established industry player, culminating in Radical’s sale to Vivendi Games, which merged with Activision last year. As part of the change, former Hothead Games president and CEO Vlad Ceraldi will shift gears, taking on a new role as Director of Game Development, while Chief Operating Officer Joel DeYoung will move from COO to Director of Game Technology.

The Prototype Eric Holmes Interview

You may not know the name Eric Holmes just yet, but odds are good you’ve heard of his work. As a Lead Designer at Radical Entertainment, Eric was a driving force behind the The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, one of the best comic-based video games in recent memory. Now, Eric is hard at work on Activision’s next big original IP, Prototype. I managed to pry him away from the latest round of testing and development for the game and talk to him about just how involved the design process is, what gamers can look for in the upcoming sandbox adventure, and what kind of pressure there is on the development team to succeed.

The Top 21 News Stories of 2008

On the eve of 2009, Crispy Gamer is proud to present to you the Top 21 News Stories of 2008. We have chosen what we believe are the top news stories of year, though deciding on which were the very best proved to be an exercise in compromise, because there were so many interesting and powerful choices this year.
We watched the interactive entertainment industry grow - and then later - retract as the global economy wreaked havoc on every kind of business you can imagine; players got their first taste of WiiWare, Home and the New Xbox Experience; we watched as the big three slugged it out for North American supremacy in the latest round of console wars and we saw Blizzard dust off its classic franchises and move million of copies of its Lich King expansion. To quote that Dickens’ classic: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.”
2008 was not without its fair share of triumphs, disappointments, joys and sorrow. Here are the stories that moved us, made us angry, scared us and made us think about the industry we cover.
We begin at the very bottom of the pile until we climb to the glorious #1 news story of the year. So it opens with Top News Story #21.
