D3 Brings Coraline to Wii, DS, and PS2

coraline D3 Brings Coraline to Wii, DS, and PS2 adventureD3Publisher announced today that it plans to release games based on the upcoming movie Coraline to game systems early next year. The game will let players take on the role of the titular heroine Coraline as she interacts with the characters from the movie while navigating the scheming Other Mother’s web of deceit in a fantastical adventure through two distinct and interactive worlds. Coraline is under development for Wii and the PlayStation 2 system by Papaya Studios and by Art Co. Ltd., for Nintendo DS.

The Coraline movie, directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas), is based on Neil Gaiman’s international best-selling and Hugo Award-winning book. It will be filmed in stop-motion animation and will be the first film shot in stereoscopic 3-D. In the story, a young girl (Dakota Fanning) walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life, only better. Eventually, things go off track, though, and her counterfeit parents (voiced by Teri Hatcher and John Hodgman) try to keep her forever.
