Mega Man Star Force 3 double shot hits retail

Capcom has released Mega Man Star Force 3 for Nintendo DS to North American retailers in two formats. Mega Man Star Force 3 comes in two different versions, Black Ace and Red Joker, allowing players to share unique items and powers via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

As in the previous Mega Man Star Force games, Mega Man Star Force 3 blends action and role-playing game by combining combat with a strategic battle system that uses battle cards to change Mega Man’s powers. New to  are Noise Changes, random enhancements that change Mega Man’s form and unlock new abilities.

The two versions of  the game, Black Ace and Red Joker, each have over 100 unique Noise Types that can be combined with Mega Man to unlock elemental powers based on earth, air, water and fire.

Mega Man Star Force 3 is rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) and carries a suggested retail price of $29.99. Look for both games in stores beginning today. Find out more about Mega Man Star Force 3 by visiting capcom.com.

Mega Man 9 Hits PSN Today

Slight Update: I erroneously reported that Mega Man 9 was “available now” when it is in fact not available yet. The game will go live sometime today. Original story below:

PlayStation 3 owners waiting for Capcom’s Mega Man 9 better get their wallets out because it is now available on the PlayStation Store. Available for $9.99, the game is identical to the WiiWare release that hit the Wii earlier this week. The Blue Bomber returns to his roots in this 9th adventure of the original storyline. This brand new adventure offers stylized 8-bit graphics and mechanics along with a familiar level of difficulty that makes it feel like a true Mega Man game.

Get your copy by logging onto the PlayStation Store now. Check out the video after the jump to get a taste of the PSN version:

Mega Man 9 Hits WiiWare

mm9 Mega Man 9 Hits WiiWare actionCapcom’s Mega Man 9 is now available via WiiWare for a mere 1,000 Wii Points. Mega Man 9 is a return to the series’ roots, offering retro graphics, classic gameplay, classically light storytelling and a return of all your favorite friends and enemies. My first impression of the game? It’s a lot of fun looks great and is as hard as hell. Perhaps my reflexes are not quite they used to be.  Still, I’m enjoying the game and appreciate the extra work it took to make this game look and play like a classic Mega Man game. Look for the game in the Wii Shop Channel under WiiWare beginning today.

Mega Man 9 Gets Proto Man DLC

protoman Mega Man 9 Gets Proto Man DLC actionProto Man, who has appeared in countless Mega Man titles since Mega Man 3 on the NES, will be making a triumphant return in Mega Man 9 - as downloadable content. According to Capcom, Proto Man will be released as downloadable content on all three platforms. The DLC will be released the week of Oct. 6 for Wii (200 Wii Points), PS3 ($1.99) and Xbox 360 (160 MS Points).

While this is certainly good news for fans of Mega Man’s alleged brother, the good news is that we’re not forced to play him if we don’t like him. For those of you that do, at least the option is there for you. Mega Man 9 will be released on the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 beginning this week. Details on that can be found in this Crispy News Story.

Mega Man 9 Dated

mm9 Mega Man 9 Dated action The wait is almost over: Mega Man 9 hits North America next week, but platform agnostics will have to wait longer than others. Wii owners will get the Blue Bomber’s adventure on Sept. 22 for 1000 Wii Points, PS3 owners will be able to pick it up on Sept. 25 for $9.99 from the PlayStation Store, and Xbox 360 owner will find it available from Xbox Live Marketplace on Oct. 1 for 800 MS Points.

I have to say, $10 for an original piece of downloadable content that could probably sold at retail is quite the deal. The original Mega Man series jumped the shark in a few places that I won’t mention so it is good to see that Mega Man will (we hope) return the series to its roots.

Mega Man on Wii Shop Channel Today

megaman Mega Man on Wii Shop Channel Today actionCapcom has released Mega Man on the Wii Shop Channel today, to celebrate the September release of Mega Man 9 in September. Capcom also promised that Mega Man 2 will soon be released on the Virtual Console as well. I look forward to that. For me Mega Man brings back a lot of great memories and serves as a reminder why the NES was so great and personally a very expensive system. See, games like Mega Man were responsible for me killing at least four NES systems.

Games like Mega Man and Super Mario Bros. did not have a save function and did not have any kind of password system, so in order to play through them you had to leave the system on. This of course kills the system eventually. So while renting and playing through Mega Man 9,000 times I killed many Nintendo systems.

The beauty of having the game on the Virtual Console is that you can basically leave the “system on” by exiting to the Wii Menu, then return to it later in the state you left it. For me this process seems normal enough considering that I rented a lot of games that didn’t have any way to save. My point is that Nintendo needs to say thank you to Capcom and companies like it because they inevitably made the NES system a top seller by developing games like Mega Man.

Anyway, enough nostalgia - you can find Mega Man on the Wii Shop Channel for 500 points. There are some other releases this week but nothing worth talking about to be honest with you.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
