New LittleBigPlanet Costumes Coming This Week
Can’t get enough of Sackboy’s adventures in LittleBigPlanet? Well, on Thursday, the PlayStation Store will fill fans’ virtual closets with a collection of new items for Sony’s most fashionable mascot.
This week’s new LBP content includes a virtual zoo of animal themed costumes, including a frog (Lily Pad), an ape (Hugo), a penguin (Frost-E), and my personal favorite, a shark (Great Blue). The animal costumes will be available for $.99 each, or in a four pack for $2.99.

LittleBigPlanet Now Online
A short note from Media Molecule reveals that LittleBigPlanet is now online, allowing players to connect, and share content. The game was recalled last week after it was revealed that it contained songs with excerpts from the Qur’an. Oops. Everything has been straightened out and the game is available at retail.
Look for a LittleBigPlanet Review later this week from Crispy Gamer.

LittleBigPlanet on Sale, Not Live
After all the waiting and anticipation, and then an unexpected last minute recall, a number of gamers got some good news over the weekend, as LittleBigPlanet finally started to rear its head at some retail outlets in time for the weekend. GameStop, in particular, began calling customer who had the game on preorder to let them know they could pick up the game as early as Saturday morning.
While some lucky gamers were fortunate enough to start their Sackboy adventures a few days shy of the full retail rollout, things weren’t all roses for the early adopters. Anyone looking to hook up with friends, share levels, or make use of any of LittleBigPlanet’s other online options saw their luck cut short. And in an ironic twist, those who picked up special preorder bonus content, such as the GameStop exclusive Kratos and Best Buy exclusive Nariko Sackboys, were greeted with an “invalid code” error when they tried to unlock the preorder goodies they received when they picked up the game. The reason for all these problems? While those retailers got their pre-order copies of the game in a few days early, no one ever switched on the LBP servers.
On the upside, though, playing the single player Story mode of LittleBigPlanet isn’t a problem, and should be enough to keep those who picked up the game busy until the LBP servers go live on Monday.
Qur’an References Force LittleBigPlanet Recall
Sometimes, you’ve got to wonder where these guys pick up music for their games. Word has come down from Sony today that the publisher will be issuing a worldwide recall on the upcoming LittleBigPlanet, less than a week before its scheduled North American release date. Apparently, the problem stems from one of the licensed background music tracks in the game, which contains two references to lines from the Qur’an, the central text of the Islamic religion.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe released a statement saying:
“During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.
We will confirm the new launch date shortly.”

LittleBigPlanet Gold, in Stores Next Month
The wait is over. Sackboy will make his debut on the PS3 on Octo. 21 In North America and Latin America, according to Media Molecule and Sony Computer Entertainment America. During the week of Oct. 21 LittleBigPlanet will also be released in Europe. There’s been a lot of positive press about this game, so it will be interesting to see if it can live up to all the hype. I think Gus Mastrapa described the game best in his preview when he noted that “LittleBigPlanet is a game design tool, a social network and a traditional platforming game in one big, beautiful package.”
Look for the game to hit next month and be sure to check out our LittleBigPlanet Preview to get more details on this interesting PS3 exclusive.

LittleBigPlanet Pre-Order Goodies
If you are wondering what pre-order goodies are being planned for Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet, then wonder no more! The official PlayStation Blog reveals several items of note that you can get for pre-ordering the game prior to its October release.
The first item is the “LittleBigPlanet Creator” MiniGuide by Brady Games, a digital guide that will serve as a primer for LittleBIGPlanet’s CREATE tools that gives users a quick and dirty lesson on how to develop their own levels.

Next is a neat LittleBigPlanet Sticker book. The picture to the left is a mock-up it gives you a general idea of what it might look like. Sony doesn’t go into too many details on just what this item does besides looking cool..

Another excellent pre-order item is the LittleBigPlanet burlap pouch, which captures the spirit of the game’s marquee character, Sackboy. You’ve seen his antics in plenty of LBP videos and now you can get some branded merchandise that you can call your own.

Want more? How about an exclusive Nariko SackGirl. The Nariko SackGirl is an exclusive downloadable costume that features Sony fanboys’ favorite heroine from Heavenly Sword.

Finally, there’s the Kratos SackBoy, which was rumored in the PlayStation blog’s forums. Readers prove to be on the mark on this one, though don’t expect this downloadable render to crack a smile.. ever.
