Fable II goes episodic with Fable II: Game Episodes

As part of its Fable III announcement today at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, Microsoft also announced that it would be releasing Fable II in episodes via its freshly launched Games on Demand service. Thankfully the first chapter will be free. The launch of Fable II: Game Episodes will debut Sept. 29 with the release of the first episode for free download exclusively on Xbox LIVE.

In the first episode, players will begin as a child in the world of Albion. After completing the chapter, players have the choice to then purchase the next installment or the entire game (in select regions). Fable II: Game Episodes will deliver the entire Fable II experience in five installments, with all the Achievements, challenges and character growth of the disk-based game, as well as full compatibility with the previously released Game Add-ons, Knothole Island and See the Future. The episodes are also fully compatible with the disk-based, retail version of Fable II, allowing players to continue their story should they purchase Fable II at retail.

More information about “Fable III” and the episodic release of Fable II will be made available at a later date at http://www.lionhead.com.

Fable III officially announced, coming in late 2010

Microsoft and Lionhead Studios officially announced Fable III, the third chapter in the popular open world role-playing game exclusive for the Xbox 360. this time around Lionhead and Peter Molyneux are shaking things up and giving players broader control of the world of Albion, for the player will become a ruler. Confirmed today at GamesCom in Germany by Peter Molyneux, the game will be available exclusively on Xbox 360 in the 2010 holiday season.

We’ve spent a lot of time at Lionhead thinking about how we can innovate the gameplay and progress the world of the ‘Fable’ games for its third chapter, and we’re confident that players won’t second-guess what we have planned for Fable III,” said Molyneux. “Though I can’t give too much away right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far wider consequences than ever before in Albion — and with many more interactive adventure elements.

In this new adventure, players will witness tyranny, poverty and injustice, along with a divided people looking for some kind of change. As the ruler of this land and these people players will be forced to decided what matters: the people’s prosperity or their own selfish gain. How this game will work is still a mystery but Lionhead promises to reveal more at a later date.

Peter Molyneux’s secret promotion

peterm Peter Molyneuxs secret promotion industryPeter Molyneux has been promoted to creative director of European studios at Microsoft Games Studios - or I should say he was promoted to that position … over three months ago. While he will still head up Lionhead studios, in his new role he’ll also oversee Rare and other external projects in Europe. Molyneux quietly took on the new job in Molyneux of this year, proving that he’s a cheeky little monkey.

Molyneux had hinted at a big announcement via his twitter feed yesterday afternoon and apparently this was the big surprise announcement he was referring to. It will be interesting to see what his influence will be on Rare and other studios, and whether or not this new job will diminish work on Milo and other Lionhead project. He also noted via his twitter feed that “Milo” is actually a game and not a tech demo. Milo was shown at the Project Natal presentation. Basically it is an NPC that has the ability to react to facial expression, tone, and even colors. the character also seems to recognize familiar faces, though how that works is not quite clear yet.

Rumor: Fable III at GDC

peter Rumor: Fable III at GDC actionWill Peter Molyneux be revealing Fable III or some other secret game project at the Game Developers Conference later this month? Perhaps he’s being cheeky, but Molyneux said at the BAFTA awards ceremony that those curious about what Lionhead is currently working on will want to pay close attention to what he does or says at GDC.

Naming a particular game before it’s out is a difficult thing. And I’ll tell you why, because in two weeks I’m about to fly out to America for the Gamers’ Development Conference and that’s the time when you start to see what’s really coming up,” said Molyneux to the BBC.

British radio and television personality Jonathan Ross also threw some gasoline on the fire by saying that he was doing some voice work for Fable III via twitter.

Maybe this will be like a fake out make out where Molyneux tells us about the ship in a bottle he’s been working on for the last three months. Stay tuned. Check out our Fable II games page to see just how good the last game in the popular RPG series rated.
