SouthPeak Acquires Gamecock Media
Coming virtually out of nowhere this morning, software publisher SouthPeak Interactive, today announced that it has officially completed acquisition of Austin-based publisher Gamecock Media Group.
Gamecock, known as much for its PR stunts (rushing the Spike Video Game Awards stage and putting on a mock funeral for E3) as it is for its games, has published such titles as Dementium: The Ward for the DS, Insecticide on the DS and PC, and most recently Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball on Xbox LIVE Arcade. SouthPeak, meanwhile, is probably best known to gamers for Two Worlds and the upcoming DS release Ninjatown.

Spark Lets Legendary Achievements Out of the Box
Later this month, gamers will literally open a Pandora’s Box of action when Sparks Unlimited and Gamecock release their upcoming FPS title Legendary to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. In an effort to whet gamers’ appetites leading up to the game’s release on October 21st, Spark Unlimited has released a complete list of Achievements available in Legendary. There are 50 total Achievements, totaling 1000 points in all. The Achievements include:

Legendary Backs Gears Film
Legendary Pictures has picked up the Gears of War movie, according to a report in Variety today. The company responsible for the ultra popular Dark Night film has signed on to co-finance and co-produce the New Line project based on Epic’s popular action game series for the Xbox 360.
The film was set up at New Line last year, with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing through Temple Hill and Gears of War lead designer Cliff Bleszinski is on board as the executive producer and as a consultant representing Epic, which owns the rights.
Len Wiseman is directing Gears, while Chris Morgan is writing the script. New Line is also working on the equally daunting World of Warcraft movie project. Because Legendary is a part of Warner Bros. the movie studio giant now has its fingers in the film as well.
The Gears of War film is pegged for release sometime in the summer of 2009, But Warner Bros. hasn’t given the film an official date.
