Announced as part of its fiscal first quarter results for 2009-2010, Ubisoft revealed that several high profile games will not be released this year. Splinter Cell Conviction and Red Steel 2, which were previously scheduled for the third fiscal quarter (Nov. - Dec., 2009), will now be released in the fourth fiscal quarter (Jan. - March 2010).

The newest Ghost Recon game and the action-themed disaster survival game, I Am Alive, previously scheduled for release in the fourth fiscal quarter (Jan. - March, 2010), will now be pushed to sometime later in 2010-11.

Sad news for anyone that wanted to play Splinter Cell Conviction this year, which looks to be the best game in the series yet.

Ubisoft Pulls I Am Alive From Darkworks

iamalive Ubisoft Pulls I Am Alive From Darkworks actionNot a whole lot is known about Ubisoft’s upcoming title, I Am Alive. This morning, though, we learned at least one new thing about the survival (not to be confused with survival horror) game … that it’s no longer being handled by Darkworks. According to a statement released today by Ubisoft, the game has been pulled from the French developer, and is now being finished up by Ubisoft Shanghai in order to meet the game’s recently revised 2010 release date. The move seems eerily similar to the move Namco was forced to pull with developer Bottle Rocket over its upcoming Splatterhouse remake.

Ubisoft Looks Ahead

iamalive Ubisoft Looks Ahead actionAs part of its Q3 Sales FY 2008-09 report, Ubisoft also released its fourth quarter outlook and its planned release schedule. Of note is that I Am Alive, an action survival game has been delayed until FY 2009-2010. The company said that “it will require further development time,” but didn’t to go into specific details.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X for the Xbox 360, PC and PS3; Tom Clancy’s EndWar for PC; the questionable Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game for the Nintendo DS, Wii and PC; and a number of new casual titles for DS and Wii including such brands as Imagine, Petz and Jake Power titles.

The company also said that it expects sales for the fourth quarter of 2008-09 to come in at between €190 ($275.50) million and €210 ($304.50) million, representing a decrease of between 12 percent and 3 percent compared with the equivalent period of 2007-08.

I Am Alive Announced

Ubisoft this week announced a new survival adventure game called I Am Alive. The game is being developed for current generation consoles and will be released in spring 2009. I Am Alive is being billed as an edgy new survival game that follows the harrowing adventures of a lone survivor after an earthquake of unknown origin (Natural? government conspiracy? Aliens? They don’t say) rips Chicago apart. Players will be challenged to think, react and take risks that will directly affect themselves and those around them. You can expect to have to hunt for necessities and face environmental hazards and pitfalls on your journey of survival.

Expect to hear more about this from Ubisoft very soon. You can follow our continuing E3 coverage at our E3 Hub.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
