GDC Europe begins today
Think Services’ European developer event, the Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe), kicks off today at the Cologne Congress East Center in Cologne, Germany through Wednesday, August 19. The three day event hosts a lineup of keynotes addresses, lectures, panels, roundtable discussions and sessions, this year emphasizing timely content and topics in business, game design, production, programming and visual arts.
Presented in conjunction with gamescom, GDC Europe will feature keynote addresses by Matias Myllyrinne of Max Payne and Alan Wake developer Remedy, Hilmar Pétursson of EVE Online developer CCP, Cevat Yerli of FarCry and Crysis developer Crytek, Klaas Kersting of German online game leader Gameforge and David Cage of Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream

Quantic Dream CEO keynotes GDC Europe

Quantic Dream CEO and founder David Cage will deliver a keynote at this year’s Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe) called “Writing Interactive Narrative for a Mature Audience.” This keynote will focus on the importance of mature games, what difficulties developers of such games might face, and some possible solutions and techniques to help with creating interactive story-driven content.
Quantic Dream is best known for creating Omikron: The Nomad Soul and Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in North America). The company is currently working on Heavy Rain, which is due for release sometime in 2010. Cage joins other notable GDC Europe keynoters including Gameforge CEO Klaas Kersting managing director of Remedy Matias Myllyrinne, CCP CEO Hilmar Pétursson and Crytek CEO and president Cevat Yerli.

Remedy’s Matias Myllyrinne to keynote GDC Europe
Matias Myllyrinne, Managing Director of Finnish-based Remedy Entertainment, the development studio behind the Max Payne series and the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive Alan Wake, will deliver a keynote at this year’s Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe). In his keynote address entitled, “From Max Payne to Alan Wake: Creating Intellectual Properties the Remedy Way,” Myllyrinne will share the key principles that have guided the company over the years in developing its games. He will touch on the company’s goal to remain small, independent, and passionate about creating new IP, and will try to answer a very important question: how can boutique European studios create large games, compete and succeed in a quickly changing and ever-growing games industry?
