Sessler’s flip-flop on the importance of story

Not long ago Adam Sessler said that good stories were mostly reserved for movies and books, while games needed to focus on gameplay. Now, Adam has decided to moved away from the position and explains what’s made him change his tune. You can watch him do that in the latest edition of Sessler’s Soapbox on
G4TV right now, or check it out below:

Where the Wild Things Are? A web site, perhaps?

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released the official web site for the video game based on the film Where The Wild Things Are. The game is based on the books of the same name featuring a boy and his scary looking monsters who aren’t all that scary. As a little kid they scared the hell out of me. Those books were just creeptastic!

Inspired by the Warner Bros. theatrical release based on the best-selling children’s book by Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are: The Videogame lets players take on the role of Max as he journeys across the land of the Wild Things, which is on the brink of destruction. Max joins forces with the Wilds Things to find a way to escape to safety before it’s too late. Where the Wild Things Are: The Videogame launches on Oct. 13 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Voice Talent Joins Game

Activision Publishing sent out a note this morning that it has signed the Transformers movie talent to reprise their roles for the upcoming video game, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, including the film’s leads Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox, who will reprise their starring roles in the game, and fan favorites Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the voices of OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRON from the original animated The game will feature the talents of Mark Ryan (Bumblebee), Jess Harnell (Ironhide), Charles Adler (Starscream) and Robert Foxworth (Ratchet). Of course, we hope that Activision’s newest Transformers game based on the films is at least a little less mediocre than the last series of games.

The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game is based on the upcoming live-action feature film from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures in association with Hasbro, which opens nationwide on June 24, 2009. The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game is currently in development by Luxoflux for the Xbox 360 and the PS3; the Windows PC version is being developed by Beenox Studios, the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions are being developed by Krome Studios; AUTOBOT and DECEPTICON-specific Nintendo DS versions are being developed by Vicarious Visions; and the PSP version is being developed by Savage Entertainment.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Film Sequel Approved?

jackman X-Men Origins: Wolverine Film Sequel Approved? film According to the Variety by way of E! Online, Hugh Jackman’s successful film, X-Men Origins: wolverine has already been green lighted for a sequel. The film worldwide gross is already at $158.2 million and counting, so this isn’t surprising news. Jackman will of course reprise his role as the admantium clawed mad man in the film,  which may be set in Japan with a story arc about samurai. You know what would have been a great idea, film makers? How about not killing the X-Men off in the last movie? Yeah, hindsight is 20/20…

Sales numbers for the game aren’t in yet, but judging by Evan Narcisse’s review, it’s not worth the plastic it is burned onto.

So why mention the film here? Because it will inevitably be made into a video game and more than likely published by Activision. So now you know, and as GI Joe (another film to turned Activision game, for the record) knowing is half the battle.

Editor’s note:  edited a portion of the story to clarify a remark about an X-Men comic book story arc.

Universal Wins Film Rights to Unannounced EA Game

If the news coming out of Hollywood this morning is any indication, dealing with Electronic Arts really is like making a deal with the devil … or rather, making a deal for the devil. Last week, Variety reported rumors that five major film studios were bidding on the film rights to an unannounced, upcoming EA game based off of the first part of Dante Alighieri’s classic poem, The Divine Comedy … better known as “Dante’s Inferno”. Now the outlet is reporting that a potential seven figure deal has been reached between EA and Universal which will give the movie studio the film rights to the new property.

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
