Dead Space Extraction in stores this week

Visceral Games announced today that Dead Space Extraction has shipped to retail in Europe and will be shipping in North America on September 29th. Designed exclusively for the Wii, Dead Space Extraction is the first title to ship under Visceral Games’ new studio name. Dead Space Extraction is the prequel to last year’s hit horror action game set on a decrepit space station overrun by alien monstrosities.

The Wii game tells the story of four space colonists trying to escape a mysterious infection of unknown origin. Dead Space Extraction explores the origins of the necromorph invasion that threatens humanity and the universe. At the center of this group is Lexine, an important new heroine being introduced for the first time to the Dead Space storyline. As the crew continues to fight for their lives, it becomes clear that protecting her is their only hope for survival. Luckily, players are armed with an arsenal of weaponry, a control system built for the Wii, and the ability to recruit a friend to play cooperatively, a first for the Dead Space franchise.

Dead Space Extraction is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. The game will be available for MSRP $49.99 on the Wii.

Hudson reveals Calling

Hudson Entertainment today revealed its Wii-focused survival horror game Calling. The adventure horror title is set to be published by Hudson Entertainment, the North and South American publishing arm of HUDSON SOFT, and will be exclusive to Wii in 2010. Calling promises to “bring players face to face with death as they roam an alternate existence in an attempt to survive.” Sounds slightly more scary than seeing the belt on your father’s robe come loose and reveal a little too much putrid zombie flesh.

In Calling, players begin by visiting a mysterious “Black Page” website with a simple number counter. Some say it is a bridge to something sinister; the counter indicating the number of people who have died after visiting the page. It is said that people who have visited the site and witness a certain event are drawn into a mysterious space compiled of the memories of the dead - the space between life and death. Someone or something is drawing the living there for a reason, and it is up to the player to discover the horrifying truth. In order to do so, players will use various equipment including flash lights, phones, and other items to navigate and escape the Calling. The person that designed that web site should probably be fired..

Throughout the game players will visit various parts of the Calling world. Memories of houses, schools, hospitals and more bring players closer to either an escape or an untimely death. Players will solve puzzles, search and interact with objects, and ultimately try to avoid the inhabitance of this alternative existence.

Expect to hear more about this game in the future.

Rockstar’s Agent formally announced

rockstar Rockstars Agent formally announced actionRockstar Games formally announced Agent, a game that was mentioned in Sony’s E3 press conference this week. Unfortunately there’s the same amount of information in the announcement that there was in the press conference - almost nothing. Nothing like being coy with us, eh RockStar?

So here’s what we know: Agent sounds like a third-person, open-world, stealth action game involving spies. The game takes players on a “paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s,” according to Rock Star.
We also know that it is a PS3 exclusive that Sony is pretty excited about. And why wouldn’t they be? Grand Theft Auto moved mountains for Sony and most games with the name Rockstar on them tend to sell systems - unless it’s on another platform like GTA IV was. Ahem.

The release does offer a quote from Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser, though: “We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game. Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game.

No date and no further details at this time, but we’ll keep you posted.

Atlus preps Demon’s Souls for late 2009 release

demonsouls Atlus preps Demons Souls for late 2009 release actionAtlus U.S.A. has secured the North American publishing rights for Demon’s Souls, an interesting action RPG for the PS3. Atlus U.S.A. is billing the game as the hardcore RPG experience PS3 system owners have been waiting for since the platform’s launch. The story revolves around a power hungry king who releases an ancient evil - and hordes of demons that devour men’s souls and leave his kingdom in shambles. Summoned by a mysterious maiden, it is up to the player to save the world from the horrible demon army and bring peace and light back into the world.

In addition to a hardcore action RPG experience, Atlus is promising seamless three-player co-op play, and open ended world with multiple paths to follow, a skills and character development system that promises open ended customization, multiplayer features that promises to redefine the single player experience through some novel hint system (allows players to leave hints for other players - including the ability to replay another player’s death scene to avoid the same mistakes) and a whole lot more.

The game is set for a fall release.

Rabbids Go Home Revealed

rabbid Rabbids Go Home Revealed actionToday Ubisoft announced that the Rabbids will receive their own standalone brand with the Holiday 2009 release of the comedy-adventure Rabbids Go Home. The games used to be branded under the Rayman moniker, but the naughty little bunny like creatures have proven to be popular. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the team behind Beyond Good & Evil, Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie and the original Rayman Raving Rabbids, the game will benefit from a new engine designed specifically for the Wii.

Not a lot of details on the game were released by Ubisoft but apparently the back story is that the Rabbids will unleash their unique brand of chaos on planet Earth as they attempt to make their way to their home planet. Look for more information on Rabbids Go Home in the May issue of Nintendo Power magazine.
