Gameloft signs deal with Interplay for Earthworm Jim

Gameloft has inked a multi-year licensing agreement with Interplay to develop, distribute and publish Earthworm Jim games for WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade, portable platforms and PlayStation Network. The popular and cult classic run and gun platform video game featuring an earthworm who dresses up in a Super Suit to fight evil. will have an exclusive one month run on Xbox Live Arcade.

More details on GameLoft’s games can be found at gameloft.com. I hope Dave Perry approves.

Twenty years of Genesis: pick the next XBLA release

Sega is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the SEGA Genesis, a game system that I’ll readily admit is near and dear to my heart, by putting giving Xbox Live Arcade fans the power to choose the next game to be released on the service.

By visiting genesispoll.com, fans can pick from one of six Genesis classics between August 14th and August 21st. Those classics include Earthworm Jim, Golden Axe II, Shining Force II, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, and Toejam & Earl. As of this writing Toejam & Earl is in the lead.

The results will be announced on Saturday, August 22 at genesispoll.com. My only question: where is Phantasy Star IV?

David Perry Keynotes GCDC

David Perry, former Shiny Entertainment founder, and creator of such hits as the Earthworm Jim and MDK series (and the atrocity that was The Matrix games - sorry no free passes today), will be a headliner at Games Convention Developers Conference (Leipzig, Germany August 18th-20th).

Perry, the co-founder of the phoenix that is Acclaim entertainment, will deliver a keynote on his vision of the future of games on the second day of the decidedly European game developers conference. No doubt, Perry will discuss Acclaim’s business model, which includes free-to-play games that rely on in-game advertisements and micro-transactions in exchange for virtual items.
