The Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway

Capcom and Tesla Motors have partnered to bring gamers the Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway, a sweepstake which began on Monday at an exclusive event at the flagship Tesla Motors showroom in Silicon Valley. The giveaway invites everyone to visit Capcom’s official Dark Void site to enter for a chance to win a variety of prizes, including an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas to test drive a Roadster, as well as the Grand Prize: their very own Roadster. Nice - even if you don’t give a damn about Dark Void. I mean come on, it’s a freaking car!

The Dark Void Tesla Roadster Giveaway is the first time that Tesla Motors has partnered with another company to give away a Roadster, the electric sports car that’s is allegedly faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo and greener than a Toyota Prius. To celebrate the launch of the sweepstakes and promote Capcom’s action-adventure game Dark Void, Capcom held a test drive event Monday that allowed the media and San Francisco Bay Area members of Capcom-Unity.com to experience both the car and the game. We were not involved in that chicanery for the record. Sign up for the contest at www.darkvoidgame.com/tesla/.

Dark Void is a sci-fi action-adventure game that combines aerial combat and ground-based third-person combat against filthy aliens. Set in a parallel universe called The Void, players take on the role of Will, a pilot dropped into the mysterious Void. This unlikely hero soon finds himself swept into a desperate struggle for survival, joining forces with a rebel human group called The Survivors. Trapped in the Void, these resistance fighters are battling to hold off a mysterious alien race that plans to threaten Earth.

Dark Void in Jan. 2010, says Capcom

Dark Void will now ship on January 12, 2010 in North America and January 15, 2010 in Europe, according to Capcom - who are currently attending Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The sci-fi themed action-adventure game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, will be ringing in the New Year I guess. Dark Void is being shown off this week at GamesCom in Cologne , Germany where the game will be one of the highlights of the Capcom’s. Capcom is showing a new exclusive demo at the show along with an outdoor skydiving booth and an advertising campaign throughout Cologne.

Dark Void combines jetpack-booster enabled aerial dog fighting and third-person combat that switches between the two different gameplay mechanics seamlessly - at least from what I have seen of it. Dark Void’s vertical combat system allows players to dangle from thousand foot drops as they take cover and hurl enemies to their doom in the air and on the ground. Will, the star of the game, is equipped with a jet pack which allows in-air combat, high speed flight and the ability to gun down any alien scum that might get in his way.

Look for the game in 2010 along with all the other games we won’t get to play this year. Sigh.

Capcom reports record first quarter results

Capcom’s first quarter 2009 financial results are good news for the worldwide publisher, with net sales of 19.4 billion yen ($204.6 million USD) - up 19.2 percent from the same period last year; operating income of 3.6 billion yen ($38.4 million USD) - up 23.0 percent from the period last year; and income of 4.1 billion yen - up 2.3 percent from the same period last year.

Resident Evil 5 continued to show sales grow with life-to-date shipment of 5.5 million, and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite also enjoyed prolonged sales - shipping a total of 3.5 million in Japan. Ace Attorney INVESTIGATIONS: Miles Edgeworth and - Sengoku BASARA Battle Heroes both made favorable showings in Japan. Capcom was not as pleased with games that they expected to better in Western markets like Bionic Commando - which moved 550,000 units for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for PlayStation Portable, which Capcom said showed weak performance.

Capcom also announced plans to delay Dark Void from a Christmas release window into the first quarter of 2010. Capcom also predicts that Lost Planet 2, due for release by year’s end, will sell 2.7 million units.

Dark Void Composer Interview

G4tv.com has an interesting video interview with music composer Bear McCreary about his work on the music for Capcom’s Dark Void. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, don’t worry - the music he’s helped create for such TV series as Battlestar Galactica and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles should be.

Dark Void is being developed by Airtight Games and published by Capcom. The game is an action title being developed using Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 and will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows. Check the interview out below:

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
