Lost Planet 2 co-op demo arrives on PlayStation Network

Capcom has finally released The Lost Planet 2 co-op demo via the PlayStation Network today, September 24 2009. Squads of four will now get to enjoy three playable missions in the tropicaljungle of E.D.N III collecting scarce thermal energy from the bodies of the Akrid which inhabit the planet. The demo offers an arsenal of weapons and hulking robotic Vital Suits, which players will need to use in order to combat Akrid of all shapes and sizes, all leading up to the desperate battle against the enormous Category G Akrid which has made appearances at E3, Comic Con, GamesCom and in the Xbox 360 demo.

The demo is a brief glimpse into the world of Lost Planet 2, highlighting the range of weaponry available to players while showing off the high definition graphical capabilities of MT Framework 2.0, the latest version of Capcom’s proprietary 3D game engine. The first generation of MT Framework powered Capcom games like Dead Rising, the original Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4, while an updated 1.5 version made possible the visuals of Resident Evil 5.

Find it now on PlayStation 3. Now if we could just get a single-player demo that would be great, Capcom.

Capcom Bringing Versus Mode to Resident Evil 5

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from all of my years of experience in dealing with undead, it’s got to be the Golden Rule of Zombie Survival: “You don’t have to run fast … just faster than the person next to you.” Apparently Capcom has learned this little tidbit of information as well, as the company announced today that it will be releasing a new “Versus” mode to Resident Evil 5’s gameplay within a few weeks of the game’s release. The new Versus mode will pit players against each other in a contest of survival against the legions of the undead.

According to Capcom, Versus mode will allow up to four players to match wits in online battles across two different game types. The first, “Slayer’s Rule” is a point-based game that challenges players to kill the most Majinis. The second game type, “Survivor’s Rule, pits players against one another as they hunt something more dangerous than the Majinis … each other. Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles.

Versus will be available on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network a few weeks after Resident Evil 5 is available. Versus will be available for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network. Versus mode requires the Resident Evil game software in order to be played. A broadband internet connection is required.

Is Lost Planet 2 a 360 Exclusive?

Earlier this week, Capcom raised the curtain on Lost Planet 2, via a trailer shown exclusively on Xbox LIVE. While the trailer showed off some gameplay footage and hinted at the plot, overall details on the game were scarce. Today, Capcom made the official announcement, releasing a few extra details on the game and hinting that there may have been more behind the LIVE debut than initially thought.

Fable 2 Co-Op Available at Launch After All?

Fable 2It seems like just a couple of weeks ago, everyone was bemoaning the fact that it looked like Fable 2’s vaunted online co-op play wouldn’t be available on the disc when the game releases later this month, but would instead be made available as a part of a downloadable update. Then the bad news got worse, as the word came out that the co-op patch wouldn’t be available at launch, but Lionhead was hoping to have it ready within a week of launch. Now, though, things are looking up.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
