ARMA II Operation Arrowhead Announced
Bohemia Interactive announced this morning that it is developing a standalone expansion pack for ARMA II called Operation Arrowhead. The expansion takes place three years after the conflict in Chernarus, which unfolded in ARMA II. At this time a new flashpoint in the Green Sea region heats up and coalition forces led by the US Army are sent to Takistan to try to restore peace and prevent further civilian casualties. The expansion will let players take on various roles in the US Army, including infantry, special operations, pilot, tank crew and more, says Bohemia.
ARMA II Operation Arrowhead will be presented during the Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany from August 19th - 23rd. Bohemia will be at stand in hall 4.2, stand no. L034.

ArmA II deploys to retail, digital distribution channels

Operation Flashpoint and ArmA: Combat Operation makers Bohemia Interactive have released ArmA II, via Steam and through retail outlets through publisher Got Game Entertainment. No doubt the game will be showing up on GamersGate, Impulse and Direct2Drive as well - though I haven’t checked any of those places as of this writing.
Bohemia Interactive’s ARMA II is billed as a realistic military sand-box style first-person shooter game, powered by the company’s third generation Real Virtuality engine that is also being used to train soldiers in Australia and United States.
ARMA II promises the “ultimate realistic combat simulation experience” in a modern day setting, with freedom of movement, actions and tactics, and the usual assortment of combat on the ground as infantry and in armored vehicles, and in the air piloting or riding in gunships and helicopters of various makes and models. ArmA II: Chenarus Details
Bohemia Interactive and IDEA Games have updated the ARMA II homepage with new information on the post-Soviet republic of Chernarus, which is the setting of the next game in the action military simulation game.
North-Eastern Chernarus is described as a hilly area with rocky coastlines; the tallest hilltops reach more than 700 m above sea level, covered with temperate forests. The environment is still relatively untouched from logging and mining, with the biggest cities and industry concentrated on the southern coast. Inland are smaller villages situated in the deep valleys, forest ridges and on elevated plateaus. This region is part of the game’s 225 square kilometer landscape, modeled using real-world geographical data of the Ceske Stredohori mountains.
Some select scenes from Chernarus can be found below.
