Halo: The Board Game

Genius Products and B1 Games today announced that the board game based on Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie’s best-selling Halo, has shipped to retail outlets nationwide. The Halo board game features a modular board that can be reconfigured to create a different gameplay experiences, characters from the game as well as new characters (Kusunagi and The Prophet of Candor), fast-paced gameplay using simple rules, and elements plucked from Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3.

In the game, players command armies of collectible character pieces (UNSC Marine and Covenant forces) for multiple levels of play including Heroic for faster casual play and Legendary for more strategic play. Fans can follow storylines that expand the Halo experience in Campaign mode or go head-to-head in interactive battle sequences with Slayer or Capture the Flag modes. The battle options are endless with future add-ons of new adventures, vehicles, characters and weapons to expand the experience.

In the game, players will command armies of three-dimensional collectible character pieces for multiple levels of play: Heroic for faster, more casual game play and Legendary for more strategic advanced gamers. Fans can follow storylines that expand the Halo experience in Campaign mode or go head-to-head in interactive battle sequences with Slayer or Capture the Flag modes. Future add-ons of new adventures, vehicles, characters and weapons to expand the experience are in the works as well.

Trivial Pursuit For Everyone

Electronic Arts announced that its interpretation of the popular Trivial Pursuit board game. Trivial Pursuit will be released on multiple digital platforms including online at Pogo.com, across several consoles and on mobile phones. The first version released is Trivial Pursuit Daily 20 on Pogo.com. Players will get a daily dose of interactive online trivia. Answering the questions correctly will earn the player points toward acquiring wedges in pursuit of collecting all the pie pieces by the end of the week.

The console version of Trivial Pursuit brings the board game experience back to the living room in a whole new venue. Players can connect with friends in classic Trivial Pursuit mode, hone their knowledge with the single player mode, and gather their friends and bet with the high stakes mode where every answer counts. Trivial Pursuit will release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PLAYSTATION 3 and Wii in early spring 2009.

Finally, EA is bringing Trivial Pursuit to mobile phones via its EA Mobile label. Trivial Pursuit from EA Mobile will be available for purchase in North America, Europe and Asia this winter.

Digital Eel’s Free Board Game

Indie game developer Digital Eel has released a free downloadable board game this week called Goblin Slayer.The folks that brought you Strange Adventures in Infinite Space, have decided to create and freely distribute a board game that is both simple to learn and challenging.

Goblin Slayer is a boardgame of heroic adventure and underground combat for two players. One player controls the evil denizens of the “Cave of Woe”, a tribe of goblins (and an optional “guest star”) who guard a fabulous object. The other player controls Stormbeard the dwarf, armed with his legendary battleaxe, who must explore the cavern complex, “acquire” the ancient artifact and escape alive. Culdcept SAGA in Stores

Namco Bandai Games America announced that Culdcept SAGA has shipped for the Xbox 360. Combining the strategy of a traditional board game with elements from a trading card games, Culdcept SAGA tries to offer an entirely original single- and multiplayer experience. The game revolves around the player fighting a battle to collect pieces of a very powerful book called the Culdcept.

To collect this book and wield its power, you”ll first have to travel around a traditional game board, taking control of squares and battling monsters using a deck of powerful cards. With each successful encounter in the game’s single-player story mode, players will acquire new cards as well as rare outfits they can use to customize their in-game avatar. Culdcept SAGA lets players create their own custom decks that suit their individual play style; these decks can include a mix of creatures, powerful equipment and spells.

Finally the game lets up to four players battle using custom decks in tactical battles on a single Xbox 360 system or online with Xbox Live. Players will be able to customize the multiplayer experience by managing the in-game rules, match types and even holding blind matches to level the playing field by distributing a random deck of cards to all competitors.
