EA CEO Confirms KOTOR MMO

While some of EA’s PR folks tried to play down or flatly deny that a Knight of the Old Republic (or Old Republic if you prefer) at E3 this week, EA’s CEO didn’t bother. Perhaps he didn’t get the memo. In an interview with Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello, it was revealed that that the company is working on the next version of Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic, and it will most certainly have a massively multiplayer online component to it.

“We’ve got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development,” said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. “And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about — in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it.”

While EA certainly kicked off an MMO revolution with Ultima Online, the company has had a pretty awful track record with online games. It’s like they are jinxed or something.. Ask a former subscriber of The Sims Online (and later EA Land), Motor City Online or Earth and Beyond if you’d like some anecdotal evidence.
