BattleForge Renegade Edition in August

renegade BattleForge Renegade Edition in August genresEA’s Phenomic studio will be expanding its online focused real-time strategy game, BattleForge with the BattleForge Renegade Edition card set beginning August 25th. Players will have access to new units and buildings from the Southern Wastes region of Nyn using over 60 additional cards that will be available through a Renegade Booster Packs in the in-game store. In case you didn’t know, BattleForge is a free to play game that combines strategy, fantasy, trading cards and magical spells in an online environment.

Two new playable factions will be part of that expansion: the Bandits and Stonekin, along with a host of new legendary creatures. BattleForge will also get dual orb cards and special affinities. The new BattleForge Renegade Booster Packs are available at the in-game store and can be purchased for 250 BattleForge points or $2.50. To download the free version of BattleForge, players can visit www.battleforge.com and click on “Play4Free.”

bf BattleForge now Play 4 Free actionPhenomic announced that its real-time strategy game, BattleForge, is now available as a free download. To download the “Play 4 Free” version of BattleForge, simply visit www.battleforge.com and click on the handy dandy Play 4 Free link. Players can also follow the game on Twitter at @battleforge.

Phenomic says that making this game available for free, all players have “easy and immediate access to the action and adventure in BattleForge” and that the “flood of new players will enrich the overall gameplay experience and grow the community.”

The Play 4 Free version offers full access to the BattleForge game, including all community features, scenarios, the recently launched Renegade campaign and 32 of 200 trading cards. Play 4 Free players will also be able to explore the full world of BattleForge and add more cards to their collection by purchasing points online. Players that do not wish to download the game or purchase the cards online can still buy the retail version which includes a disk-based game and cards from all 4 factions plus 3000 BattleForge Points that can be exchanged for in-game cards. This retail version of the game remains available for $29.99.

Battleforge Price Cut, Demo Released

EA and Phenomic ahev lowered the price today announced a new lower price tage on its real-time strategy game BattleForge. Now you can pick the fantasy themed trading card game inspired RTS at the reduced price of $29.99. The new pricing is effective immediately in North America. Additionally, gamers can check out the BattleForge demo on BattleForge.com. There’s no indication why EA decided to cut the price of the game, but it’s never a bad thing when we can get something for less.

In the demo, players start with a random faction deck and have limited access to maps. Players will have access to sparring ground player versus player (PvP) battles as well as player versus environment (PvE) maps. Players will then be able to upgrade to the full product in-game. BattleForge Open Beta Goes Live

coverart00877 BattleForge Open Beta Goes Live casualEA’s Phenomic said this morning that it plans to launch the “official” open beta for BattleForge today. Beginning today, all players will be able to enter and play the online portion of the game until it goes live on March 24th, 2009. The open beta players will feature all 200 BattleForge cards and all the maps in the game. Everyone who takes part in the beta will get the bonus, upgraded Firedancer unit that will be available after launch. Players who pre-order BattleForge from participating retailers will receive four exclusive units - one from each faction to jump start their decks.

So what the hell is BattleForge? It is a real-time strategy game that combines what Phenomic calls fast-paced strategy with a digital trading card mechanic in a dynamic online environment. Players can use virtual trading cards to build custom armies and take on other armies, with an emphasis casual plat in single-player, and coop for 2 to 12 players and Player vs. Player (PvP) ranked and unranked duels.

EA’s Games Convention Line-Up

Like many other publishers, Electronic Arts is show its goods at the Leipzig Games Convention this week in Leipzig, Germany this week.

At its press conference scheduled tomorrow, EA plans to give presentations on FIFA 09, The Sims 3, SimAnimals, Boogie SuperStar, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Littlest Pet Shop, Monopoly, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Dragon Age: Origins, Need For Speed Undercover, and a sneak peak at RAGE from EA Partner, id Software.
