Konami Drops Six Days in Fallujah
Konami has given up on Six Days in Fallujah, a game that promises to put players in the real life battle as U.S. military forces against insurgents in Iraq. According to THE ASAHI SHIMBUN, Konami had decided not to sell the game due negative reaction in North america, Europe and Asia.
“After seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it,” a Konami representative told the publication. “We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there.”
The outspoken objection to the game came from all corners - from Veteran’s groups objecting to the purported use of knowledge directly from Insurgent groups in Iraq, to anti-war groups and the general public.
Of course, this does not mean that the game is done. We assume Atomic Games is still developing it and will at some point will find a new publisher.
We have asked Konami’s U.S. subsidiary for an official confirmation and statement. We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
