Tyler Bates scores Army of Two: The 40th Day

EA Montreal announced that film composer Tyler Bates will be creating the score for the third person co-op shooter sequel ARMY OF TWO: THE 40TH DAY. Bates is best known for his work on the films 300 and Watchmen, is crafting a score that will highlight the co-operative battles gamers and their friends will face in what EA hopes is the first major video game release of 2010.

With more than 50 films and 15 years experience, Bates is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after composers. In addition to Watchmen and 300, he has scored hit films such as The Day the Earth StoodStill, Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2, and Showtime’s hit comedy series “Californication”.

ARMY OF TWO: THE 40TH DAY will ship on January 12, in North America and January 8, 2010 in Europe. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PSP.

EA Producer Matt Turner stopped by to talk with G4TV to preview some fresh new gameplay from Army of TWO: The 40th Day. The walkthrough video offers 10 minutes of direct-feed footage that reveals new weapon customization, “pre-combat” tactical playbook gameplay, a grenade-launching boss fight, improved co-op game mechanics and a lot of dead zoo animals. EA’s Montreal game development studio announced today that Army of Two: The 40th Day will ship on January 12, 2010 in North America and January 8, 2010 in Europe. The sequel to the cooperative shooter sees the return of the mercenaries-for-hire, Salem and Rios, in an all new adventure set in Shanghai, China, where was has suddenly erupted.

EA also announced that those who pre-order the game will have exclusive early access to a new multiplayer mode called “Extraction” when the game in released to retail. Extraction is set for deployment a month or so after the game ships, but those that buy the game early will apparently be able to jump right into this multiplayer mode on release day.

Extraction is a mode where a team of up to four-players fight off waves of bad guys as they move from point to point in the ruined city. Players must plan and fight as a team, staying alive long enough to hit an extraction point.

EA Montreal has brought renowned comic artists Chris Bachalo and Jock onboard to lend their talents to Army of Two: The 40th Day. Bachalo and Jock have been enlisted to illustrate the long term impacts of these “morality moments.” and on a Comic-con related note, today and tomorrow from 2pm - 4pm PST, Chris Bachalo will be signing original Army of Two: The 40th Day artwork at EA’s booth (# 5213).

Chris Bachalo has worked on several high profile comic series including Sandman, Batman, Incredible Hulk, and Uncanny X-Men. He recently collaborated with Jeph Loeb, a producer for the TV show Heroes, to create the book Witching Hour and is currently working on Marvels’ flagship title, The Amazing Spiderman.

Jock is best known for his work with writer Andy Diggle on Vertigo’s The Losers and the DCU’s and Green Arrow: Year One. On top of creating production art for such films as Batman Begins, Hancock, and the upcoming adaptations of Dune and Judge Dredd, he’s also illustrated covers for DC Comics titles including Batman, Nightwing, Catwoman, Azrael and Scalped, as well as Marvel Comics Thunderbolts and Dark X-Men.

Army of Two: The 40th Day will be available this winter for the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PSP.

EA prepares for Comic-Con

eacon EA prepares for Comic-Con actionElectronic Arts revealed the titles that it will showcase at San Diego Comic-Con International from July 23 - 26, 2009. Located at booth #5213 in the San Diego Convention Center, EA will showcase ARMY OF TWO: THE 40th DAY, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1943, Brutal Legend, Dante’s Inferno, Dead Space: Extraction, G.I. JOE The Rise of Cobra, Dragon Age: Origins, Left 4 Dead 2, The Saboteur and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Part of the booth will also contain a retail corner with unique EA merchandise for sale (details on that merchandise can be found at www.easpecials.com).

In addition to its booth, EA will host the ‘EA Gaming Lounge presented by Xbox 360′ at the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter Hotel (401 K Street, San Diego, California 92101) that will run from Thursday July 23 to Sunday July 26. The ‘Gaming Lounge will be open from 2pm - 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 6/25; 12pm - 5pm on Sunday. Show-goers will be able to get hands-on play with Dragon Age: Origins, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. On July 22nd, EA will also host a press-only preview showcase from 11am - 5pm.

EA reveals massive E3 line-up

Electronic Arts today revealed the games it will show off at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) June 2 - 4. The year’s lineup features sequels franchises, new intellectual property, and licensed titles across various platforms.

Highlights include Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Brütal Legend, Dead Space Extraction, Dragon Age: Origins, Dante’s Inferno, G.I. JOE The Rise of Cobra, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Mass Effect 2, The Saboteur, MySims Agents, Need For Speed NITRO, Need for Speed SHIFT, Spore Hero, Spore Hero Arena, The Sims 3, Battlefield 1943, and Littlest Pet Shop Online.

EA Sports will be showcasing EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis, FIFA 10, Madden NFL 10, NCAA Football 10, NHL 10, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10, and Fight Night Round 4.
