Booyah Society app released

booyah Booyah Society app released

Silicon Valley startup Booyah is banking on a social application for iPhone and iPod touch that tracks and rewards users with what it calls “real-life achievements.” Imagine if you could get an achievement for walking the dog, driving your car or working out? As inane as that might sound, this free application does just that and it allows you to broadcast your accomplishments – however banal or beautiful, to the world via Facebook and Twitter.

Booyah’s first application, Booyah Society, is being billed as the first social game based on real-life achievements. It is the brainchild of Keith Lee, Brian Morrisroe and Sam Christiansen – former games industry veterans from companies including Blizzard Entertainment, Activision, and Insomniac Games. Earlier this year, Booyah announced that the Company raised $4.5 million Series A financing from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) as part of the firm’s iFund.

Booyah Society is live on the App Store today for free. The company claims that this first app is the kernel product for Booyah’s long-term vision, which is to help people of all walks of life connected by devices like the iPhone and iPod Touch and social networks like Facebook and Twitter to improve their lives and catalyze mass action through apps that blend game mechanics and social behavior.

Those interested in checking out Booyah Society can do so by visiting www.booyah.com.

LegendaryLater this month, gamers will literally open a Pandora’s Box of action when Sparks Unlimited and Gamecock release their upcoming FPS title Legendary to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Making matters worse, Decker gets branded by the Box, and becomes the only person capable of resealing the box and trapping the creatures inside once again.

Games For Windows – Live For Free

According to Microsoft’s GamerScore blog, you will never ever have to pay for getting achievements on your Games For Windows tittles again. That’s right my PC brethren and … sisteren, no more worries about having to have a Live account – at least on the PC. While Xbox Live players have to worry about their accounts expiring and buying more time (mine expires in mid-August! Yay!), Games For Windows – Live players are thumbing their collective noses at you today.

Microsoft revealed that the PC side won’t have to pay anything. The hope, in my estimation, is that freeing up the service will drive more gamers to the use it. Multiplayer and all the other abilities of Live are included.

Microsoft also said that Games For Windows Live Marketplace is in the works and will be launched sometime (no date, sorry) with free content, videos, demos and more. Will Games For Windows get themes and other goodies as well? They’d better or i’ll call my congressman who will admittedly do absolutely nothing.. except maybe get another earmark for Berkshire County!. So if you want to avoid causing further pork barrel spending, Games For Windows people, then you’ll heed my words..
