Guitar Hero Returns to DS with Modern Hits

guitar Guitar Hero Returns to DS with Modern Hits casualWith the pending release of the GBA port-less DSi looming just around the corner, it looks like Activision wants to milk the portable Guitar Hero experience for all it’s worth before the game’s custom fret peripheral is forced to go the way of the dodo. Earlier today, the company announced the upcoming release of Guitar Hero: Modern Hits for the Nintendo DS. The new game will feature a set list comprised of more than 25 master tracks from various artists including Coldplay, Fall Out Boy and Weezer.

Along with the announcement, Activision unveiled 12 of the 25 plus tracks, including:

  • 12 Stones – Adrenaline
  • Tenacious D – The Metal
  • Atreyu – Falling Down
  • Fall Out Boy - This Ain’t A Scene
  • Weezer - Everybody Get Dangerous
  • The Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
  • Evanescence - Sweet Sacrifice
  • The Strokes – Reptilia
  • The Bravery – Unconditional
  • Wolfmother – Dimension
  • Coldplay - Violet Hill
  • Lenny Kravitz - Where Are We Runnin

Guitar Hero: Modern Hitswill add a few new features to the DS mix, including something called “Fan Requests”. According to Activision, Fan Requests open up new challenges, such as forcing to do things like playing through an entire song in Hyperspeed, battling it out in a Guitar Duel with active Bomb Notes, or whammying every single hold note in a song. Also, once again, players can stream songs between the new game and previous releases, Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades sharing their library of songs via local wireless connections.

Guitar Hero: Modern Hits is once again being developed for the DS by Vicarious Visions and is due out sometime this year, though no firm release date has been set just yet. Still, if I were Activision, I wouldn’t too long to release it. Once the DSi hits and demand for the system renders the GH fret attachment obsolete, I predict that interest will tank faster than stock in Blockbuster.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
