A Boy and His Blob Returning This Year
Proving the old adage that everything old is new again, Majesco and developer WayForward Technologies have announced officially that they are resurrecting the classic NES title, A Boy and His Blob, and updating the game for a new generation of gamers and a new generation of consoles, bringing the title to the Nintendo Wii later this year. WayForward is no stranger to handling classic characters, having previously developed the DS titles Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck! and Contra 4. This time around, the developer will be feeding gamers’ sweet tooth, bringing the jelly bean powered Blobert back with new animations, new abilities, and new gameplay options.
In the original game, an evil emperor has seized the throne of Blobolonia, and the fate of its inhabitants was left in the hands (or lack thereof) of Blobert and the young boy he encountered when he crash landed on Earth. Playing the part of the boy, players worked together with Blobert to solve puzzles, defeat monsters, and save both the Earth and Blobolonia. By feeding Blobert different flavored jelly beans, players could activate his special abilities to transform him into everything from trampolines and ladders to a blowtorch and “Vitablaster” gun. For the remake, the classic beans such as Licorice Ladder, Apple Jack, and Tangerine Trampoline will be joined by all-new jelly beans, including Bubble Gum Bubble and Caramel Cannon to provide a new Wii twist on the original NES release.
While no firm release date for the new A Boy and His Blob title, Majesco is planning to release the game something this year, coinciding with the 20th Anniversary of the original game’s release back in 1989.
