Vitals: 30

Education: University of Texas at Austin, B.A. in English, 2001.

Publications: I've had work in Wired Magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly, The San Francisco Chronicle, Computer Gaming World (later, Games for Windows Magazine), The New York Daily News, Paste Magazine and elsewhere.

Platforms played: Pretty much everything ever. My apartment is a gaming museum.

Genres (not) played: I haven't played a Japanese RPG since 1994. I've just recently come around to serious PC strategy games, and they make me feel like an idiot. Sports games are only marginally more interesting to me than the real thing, which is to say I'd rather sleep than play them.

Multiplayer or single-player: I would like to play more multiplayer games, but I fear cultivating online friends who expect me to show up on a regular basis. I'm a story guy, anyway.

My favorite Top 10 games ever played:

!) Super Mario Bros.
?) Shadow of the Colossus
:) Half-Life 2
&) Portal
X) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
$) BioShock
*) WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!
%) Pac-Man Championship Edition
;) Samba de Amigo Ver. 2000 (the real one, on Dreamcast)
666) Rock Band

What makes me tick: Cooking a big dinner for good people, making music out of nothing, getting lost in games and books.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
