Vitals: 36, married, three boys (6, 7 and 9)

Education: Major in Computer Science/Mathematics and Minor in Fine Arts from Ursinus College.

Publications: Freelance writer for seven years appearing in Computer Games Magazine, Games for Windows: The Official Magazine and at GamerDad.com. Former Editor-in-Chief of GamerDad.com. Contributor to Gaming Hacks, published by O’Reilly Press (ISBN 0-596-00714-0).

Platforms played: All of them! My preference right now is PC, Wii and DS, but I love to play the old Sega platforms and visit classic arcades, and I have a love affair with the Neo Geo (cartridges only). Virtual Console will be my financial doom. Xbox 360 also gets plenty of play time. PSP is collecting dust in a drawer and I recently received a PlayStation 3.

Genres played: Shooters (first- and third-person and scrolling), real-time and turn-based strategy, auto racing sims, fighting, action-platform, MMOs and I dabble in RPGs, war games and flight sims. I obsess over a sports game now and then, too.

Multiplayer or single-player: Lots of both, but with a leaning toward multiplayer both online and offline with friends and the kids.

Skill level: Above average in most games. I’ve still got the hand-eye coordination of a ten-year-old. Like the Duke says, “Come get some.”

Once we got down to the final three or whatever options we could vote on for Game of the Year here at Crispy, and I realized I hadn't played any of them or they weren't my thing, I simply didn't put in a final vote.

Sometimes what everyone else loves just isn't your bag.

Not to be pedantic, but the Square-Enix Tax usually refers to the fact that they sell their portable games at a $5 markup over every other portable game. In this case $39.99 instead of the more standard $34.99 or $29.99 for a first-run DS title.

Ack! Posted too soon!

It's imperative that you have TBC because all the content to get you from Level 60 to 70 is in there. You'd have nowhere to go to get yourself up to 70 otherwise, and you need to be at least 68 to get into Northrend.

That said, if you only have vanilla WoW today, you still get all the changes to character classes, etc. that comes with all the patches they've done. You just can't leave the original form of Azeroth before Xpacks.

You must have The Burning Crusade installed in order to install Wrath of the Lich King. They have a blurb on the box about it.

I will play the game myself to determine if I agree or disagree with Scott, but he pretty much sums up all the fears I had about the game and wrote about back in September... http://davelong.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/littlebigfailure/

Regardless of whether you agree or disagree, Scott's reasoning for the score is sound.

The copy I got to review didn't come with the headset. I've got the Jabra that came with Warhawk so there really wasn't a need to get the one with the new headset included. Glad to hear it's a good one. I've been hearing that elsewhere, too.

I'm probably going to log in again this weekend to see if it's improved at all, but given how busted it is, I'm not expecting much.
