What's Hot: The aerial sequences in particular make for dizzyingly spectacular fights where all sense of where the ground is goes out the window.
What's Not: The overly flippant dialogue and meandering, padded plot fritter away most of the dramatic potential of the core premise.
Content and controls are commensurate on both the Sony and Microsoft consoles.
Web of Shadows does join the ranks of games that require a mandatory install on the PlayStation 3, but it's only about a three-to-four minute install to the hard drive. Colors pop more vibrantly on the PS3 version, and certain visual effects and textures come across as more detailed -- but graphics are slightly jaggier.
Despite these complaints, it's a much better Spider-Man/superhero game than we've had of late, and the new combat engine feels like how Spider-Man should fight. At its best,
Web of Shadows succeeds in reinvigorating the thrill of what it means to play a Spider-Man game.
