What's Hot: When your girlfriend hates you, the Patapon still look up at you in awe; Three kinds of games in one; Dizzyingly rhythmic soundtrack
What's Not: No multiplayer to pit god against god
As you destroy buildings and flush the Zigaton out from the brush and such, you'll encounter bosses at the ends of each level: dragons, dinosaurs and the like. You'll steel your nerves and fight against a devilish Zigaton who throws tornadoes in your dusty path, too.
By the time you're a third of the way through, you'll need a full Patapon squad to defeat the many Zigaton. By halfway through, your strategy with the now-available horses lets you add a cavalry to your tribe. Careful positioning of infantry and cavalry becomes more and more key to defeating bosses like a fire-breathing worm.
Yet for me, it's the danceable, jitterbug rhythm with which the tribe and I sally forth that makes the game such a hoot. And those sanguine, one-eyed soldiers looking up to me like I'm the bees' knees when I win? That's like having your little bro or your baby look at you in awe when you've done something that's simple for you but hard for them. It's a warm, golden feeling you don't often get with a game. Now, off with those Zigaton heads. The Almighty can be a wrathful, jealous god.
