What's Hot: Still the top hoops sim, now with a crazy-fun dunk mode
What's Not: You'll play the street ball mode exactly once
As far as presentation goes, movement on the court seems more fluid this year, and players have definitely been given a makeover. There are far fewer zombie-looking dudes running around. Play-by-play is generally on the mark. You will hear the same comments about certain players over and over again -- especially if you play through a season or are in Association mode -- but you do get a strong overall sense of watching a televised game.
As a big fan of the PS3, it's a drag to hear gaming snobs refer to it as an overpriced console with very few good games. Chock some of it up to envy; chock some of it up to the platform's shortcomings. The tide is turning, though, and -- especially for hoops fans -- there's a light at the end of the tunnel of mediocrity. This year, they have three solid ways to play in the paint.
NBA 2K8 remains the King of the Court with its tightened controls and new dunk mode, but the competition isn't far behind. Crazy as it sounds, we can hardly wait to see what the 09 games will have to offer.
This review was based on a retail copy of NBA Live 08 that was supplied by the publisher. I think the UPS guy is jealous of him.
