Madden 08 for the Wii comes equipped with most of the modes and features of the other versions, including franchise, owner and create-a-player modes. Online play has been improved, if only because you can now matchmake rather than use friend codes. Madden 08 for the Wii also makes a convincing bid at being a party game. Family Play ensures that anyone can take a turn, waving the remote around is wacky and fun, and there's a handful of clever mini-games on hand, just like last year. Did I say handful? No, last year had four -- this year there are 22! (Most of them are mini-camp games re-engineered so players can take turns.)

It's disappointing that there is no noticeable graphics update this year, and the animations are a bit stilted. The game lacks the sheen and most of the new additions seen in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Madden NFL 08 brings back a bunch of old features and combines them with a slew of new ones to make a gridiron simulation you'll be playing until well after the Super Bowl, and one you will definitely bring out for a Super Bowl party.

This review is based on a retail copy of the game provided by the publisher.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
