For all but the two or three of you out there who don't have a DS to go alongside your Wii, Kuju added a couple of nice little goodies to Galaxies just for you. The game features a couple of connectivity options strictly for the handhelds. First, for owners of
Geometry Wars: Galaxies on the DS, the two games can be connected and synched up, unlocking a few extra bonus stages on the console version. It's a perfect little extra to bump up your overall score on the online leaderboard. The other connectivity option lets DS owners download the
Geometry Wars: Evolved game direct to the DS via wireless connection. This is the full
Evolved version with which many fans of the series are familiar. Controls for this version, using a combination of the d-pad for flying and the touch-screen for shooting, are phenomenally good, possibly even more intuitive than the original game -- definitely a far cry from the awkwardness of the default Wii controls.
With its old-school appeal and addictive gameplay, it's no surprise that the Geometry Wars franchise is continuing to grow. Overall, the new additions to the tried-and-true formula do a good job of bringing something extra to the table, while the Multiplayer and DS connectivity are huge perks. Still, the new, frustrating Wii-specific controls are likely to turn off fans without the benefit of a classic controller add-on. That being said, if you're looking for plenty of action with a hint of that tasty nostalgic flavor, it wouldn't hurt to give
Geometry War: Galaxies on the Wii a shot.
