The artificial intelligence is still about as smart as your average wrestler, which makes the single-player game an exercise in frustration, particularly in tag-team matches. The best example of this are matches that for some reason feature a ladder when there is nothing up there for you to get. Watching a wrestler ascend and descend while accomplishing nothing happens too often.

Multiplayer is good and works well, which is important for a game that depends so much on the controls, but the experience is ruined by an online community filled with the worst online gaming has to offer. Racism, obscene language and general jerkiness are rampant. Hmmm...you'd think WWE fans would be more cool and mature.

Before last year's move to the next-generation consoles with the Xbox 360 version, the SmackDown vs. Raw series was stuck in a rut and was as predictable as a real match. The series needs some competition, some new ideas and refinement.

This review was based on a retail copy of the game provided by the publisher.

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
