Rush Boom Turtle: Tom Chick's Sims 3 RTS Challenge

If you don't think The Sims 3 is a strategy game, Tom Chick might change your mind. Read his latest column and challenge.

As further incentive, here is the list of games the winner can choose among so far:

Tom Clancy's HAWX
Sacred 2
Elven Legacy
Battleforge
Puzzle Kingdoms
Battlestations: Pacific

These are all sealed retail copies. I've got plenty of stinkers I could offer, but I want to make sure the winner gets to choose among some decent titles. I'll update the list as I get more games to offer.

I don't know much about The Sims 3, even though my wife is playing it right at this very moment. The saves track stuff like whether you used a cheat or not and such?

Any opinion on Order of War from Square Enix?

@GusMastrapa:

Gus, I'm afraid my opinion on Order of War is that I saw it through an open door and assumed it was an action game. Sad But who'd have ever thought Square Enix was going to be a primary publisher for RTSs? They run the risk of cornering the non-Starcraft market with Supreme Commander 2 and Order of War!

Here is my entry for the challenge - great idea to make the Sims into a RTS: http://www.thesims3.com/...il.html?contentId=29635

If this link doesn`t work it can be found on my page under the name wium2.

I wonder why EA can send messages, but I as a user cannot (or not yet anyway?). While trying to post this I also encountered issues with uploading screenshots, I just got big black squares...

Since we can't send PMs on the Sims 3 site anymore, I'm just going to post my entry here.

I think I saved it too late, so I'm adding these screenshots as well.

Ugh, yeah, I assumed we could send messages via our Sims 3 pages. Sad Feel free to post the URL for your saved Mr. Boomturtle entries here. Alternatively, you can email the link to my Gmail account at tomwchick (note that you have to get the middle initial "W" in there).

I can't seem to download the guy - it says the link is bad. Is there somewhere else I can grab it? Thanks!

Well, I seem to be as unlucky and a loser as Mr. Boomturtle.

I actually had a fantastic run with him, accumulated around 35,000 points overall.

But I have no proof.

He died right when he reached day 90, for no good reason. I didn't realize that in order to get my proof, I would have had to save right then. Then I tried to get a print-screen shot, and forgot to paste it into anything.

I'll say this much though - I got REALLY attached to the poor little guy. I managed to get him to Music Career level 6 and I got him a foxy little romantic interest, to boot.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to do a second run though, and I'm not sure I could - it wouldn't be the same Boomturtle.

I took a few screenshots of his life, here: http://www.thesims3.com/...ail.html?contentId=31224

Tada!

We had a bad few days after he switched into a political career and found himself in way over his head, but things looked up after he and his pretty young co-worker fell in love.

Hmm, here's another attempt at the link:

http://www.thesims3.com/...ail.html?assetId=105455

Alternatively, try searching for items created by "tomchick". The name of the lot is "Tom Chick's Sims 3 RTS Challenge". You should be able to find it by searching. Alternatively, email me at tomwchick on my Gmail account and I'll send you the file.

Okay, we have some good submissions, but since the winner doesn't have to be determined before Tuesday, the contest is extended until noon Pacific on Monday! So if you want to try your luck with Mr Boomturtle, you have the weekend. Also, I'm seeing some, uh, interesting strategies, all of which are encouraged as long as they don't outright break the rules.

Finally, the winner will get 1000 SimPoints and his or her choice of one (1) of the following games (all shrink-wrapped brand new retail copies!):

Sacred 2 (PC)
Sacred 2 (PS3)
Elven Legacy (PC)
Puzzle Kingdoms (Wii)
Battlestations Pacific (360)
Tom Clancy's HAWK (PC)
Battleforge (PC)
Fuel (360)
Prototype (360)
Empire: Total War (PC)

How do I send you a private message on the sims 3 forum?

Also, can I contact you directly? I have something I would like your feedback on. You're the writer, the publisher. I hope to get EA's attention for challenge gamers.

The Games That Time Forgot

The Games That Time Forgot

The games we're pulling together in this feature won't appear on any of those best-of lists and get confused looks when you mention them in conversation. Just because time has forgotten these titles, though, doesn't mean you should forget them, too.
